180Headers

If you’ve ever heard the old GT40 racecars from the 60s, then you know how awesome 180-degree headers can make an American V8 sound. Some have called the header design the “bed of snakes” because of the many swirls, bends, and connections the pipes make in order to match cylinders in order to improve the volumetric efficiency of the motor.

Those twists serve the same purpose as the curves on a pair of headers. The idea is to use the engines pulse frequencies to accelerate exhaust flow and increase volume (i.e. make more power). There’s plenty more to the whole design, but that would take an engineering dictation far above our heads. In addition to the added power of the 180 headers there’s that distinctive sound.Oh the sound! Turn up your speakers and listen to the C5 and LS-powered off-road monster with 180-degree headers, it’s amazing how different a set of headers can make a car sound.
