Ok, admit it, if you walked by this WRX you would have just shrugged it off as another ricer in a car that thinks he can beat your Camaro or Silverado. It is unassuming enough as there really aren’t many things to make you point at it and say, “that thing is amazing.” It’s just another bug eye Subaru, right? Not so much.

No, your ears do not deceive you; that is a 6.0-liter, LQ4 swapped WRX on that dyno. Though, to be honest, it’s not the first. In fact there have been several from street driven cars to a wagon that was drifting in a SoCal Formula Drift ProAm.

It really makes a great sleeper when you think about it. At the stoplight, this and a normal WRX STi sound pretty similar save for a slight burble that the boxer-four has thanks to its unequal length exhaust manifold.

It’s when you expect the Subaru to lag behind as it builds boost that will get you when this thing rockets by you with eight-cylinders firing instead of the turbo-four. Might be time to keep a closer eye and ear on those WRXs now.
