LS-swapped USPS Truck Delivers the Mail at Holley LS Fest

By -

This crazy postal truck proves that even the most boring vehicle on earth can be cured with a little LS power.

We often find ourselves feeling sorry for the men and women who work tirelessly to fill our mailboxes day in and day out. Even though most of what we receive goes straight into the recycling bin. These folks not only have to endure all sorts of terrible weather to bring us junk mail, they also have to do it perched behind the wheel of the world’s most boring, highly underpowered box. That is, unless your name is David Stacy.

Stacy isn’t a USPS employee, mind you. But he found himself wrenching on one of their Grumman LLV mail trucks after finding inspiration at an event we’re all quite fond of. “Two years ago I came to Holley LS Fest. I have been coming for 10 years now and I wanted something different. Then a mailman pulled out in front of us. I told my old lady ‘I think we should do a post office truck for LS Fest.” The rest, as they say, is history.

It took two years to find a suitable truck, but Stacy eventually came across one sitting in front of somebody’s garage. As soon as he he had hauled it home, a slew of aftermarket companies came calling to help with they build. Starting with Holley, of course. Then parts sellers Summit and Jegs. Amazingly enough, Stacy just got the swapped Grumman running two days before the 2019 LS Fest kicked off. Total build time? A mere three months.

Unsurprisingly, this mad creation has already become quite famous. “On the way here my trailer broke its axle and we had to stop at a gas station,” Stacy said. “Some younger guy pulls up and shakes my hand. He says ‘that’s the LS postal truck! I saw it on Facebook and everywhere else.’ It blew up. I didn’t think it was going to.”

The 6.0-liter LS6 has only a few performance parts, but that’s obviously enough to make it scoot pretty well. Holley supplied the mid-rise intake and 42cc injectors. The cold air intake is a modified 2012 SS piece, the transmission a 6L90. All of that sends power back to an 8.8-inch Ford rear end. And this postal truck even has four-wheel disc brakes to slow it down.

Despite the fact that he was still working the bugs out, Stacy still participated in the burnout contest. And needless to say, he lit up both his tires and the crowd. But perhaps more importantly, this LS powered USPS truck proves that delivering the mail doesn’t have to be boring, after all!
