Nitrous-Fed ZL1 Runs 9 Seconds Two Days After Purchase

If you answered “throw fuzzy dice over the mirror,” hang your head in shame. And then try not to crash because you’ve now blocked 40 percent of the forward view. (Kidding…mostly.)

The correct answer is, of course, “shop for parts to make it go berserker speeds.” After all, the point of having an insanely fast car will always be to make it go faster. If you’re buying a ZL1, you’re buying it to feel that accelerating surge of adrenaline. And like all drugs, that rush will need to be stronger and stronger to get a fix.

So if you hadn’t already shopped for speed parts before you bought it, you sure as hell are doing that the second you park it. Maybe you’re not even waiting that long; Siri can help out with that kind of thing, you know.

Anyway, drag-racing YouTuber BigKleib34 caught up with this sixth-gen ZL1 and its owners, who had already started modifying it. Long before getting it to Street Car Takeover in Charlotte, they had started knocking elapsed time out of it.

In fact, within one day of leaving the dealer lot, they had already hooked up nitrous. The day after that, they had already knocked it down into the 9’s. The advertised quarter-mile time is 11.4-seconds. That’s no fooling around and the nitrous-sprayed ZL1 throws down a mind-bending 9.438-second run at 148.10 mph.

BigKleib calls it a “Demon Killer” and it just might be that. We’d love to see this thing run straight-up with one of Dodge’s dealer-lot drag missiles. Who would you bet your money on in that race?
