Poll: What Will the Next-Gen C8 Corvette Bring?

When you think of what’s essential, iconic, or dare I say—required, to be on a Corvette, what comes to mind?

Is it the front engine and rear-wheel drive combination, the two-door configuration, or simply the LS1 V8 under the hood? Well, if you guessed, LS1 V8, then you’re right.

At least according to Oliver Gavin, who is a racing superstar, and factory Corvette racing driver in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. He says the next generation C8 Corvette has-t0-have a V8 under the hood—anything other than that just wouldn’t make any sense, and wouldn’t be ok.

Whether that V8 could eventually be mounted in a mid-engine layout or not, that’s still highly speculative and nothing leads us to believe that it could, even with many Zora concepts circulating the web. It’s no secret that GM has experienced with many setups and designs, but we surely hope Oliver is right and the V8 sticks around.

Unfortunately, Oliver is simply a race car driver, and has no direct involvement with the development of the C8 (that we know of). So, until an official statement is made, it’s all dust in the wind…
