This 1981 Porsche 911 SC has been completely redone, inside and out, and features modern LS power to boot.

LS swaps have been all the rage for years now, but some vehicles tend to get that particular treatment more than others. One particular swap candidate gaining favor is the Porsche 911, a vehicle that’s known for its fantastic air- and water-cooled flat-six-cylinder powerplants. Regardless, those engines are oftentimes expensive to repair or modify, making the LS alternative an enticing one for owners. That includes the person that put this 1981 Porsche 911 SC together, which recently went up for grabs via Hemmings but managed to find a new owner pretty quickly.

This particular 1981 Porsche 911 SC isn’t just another new engine in an old car story, however, as this particular build has also received a comprehensive list of modifications that make it wholly unique. That process starts on the outside, where you’ll find a total overhaul designed to make the car look like a 935 K3, the iconic race car. The parts list there includes 930 steel slant-nose front fenders, 935 K3 rear fenders and rocker panels, and a front bumper that consists of a Porsche 993 Turbo top half and 930 S front spoiler.

The interior has also received a bit of an overhaul with 1988 930 Turbo parts, black leather, Porsche Sliverknit carpet, an Alpine stereo system, power windows, door locks, and air conditioning. Underneath, the car has been treated to upgraded dampers and brakes, while the 911 rolls on a set of Braid three-piece aluminum wheels wrapped with Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.

The real story lies under the hood, however, where you’ll find GM’s 5.7-liter LS1 V8 that reportedly produces 410 horsepower and 400 pound-feet of torque. The rear-mounted powerplant sends that juice to the rear wheels via a modified five-speed Porsche Type 915 five-speed manual transmission, which is attached with a custom adapter plate.

This supremely cool 1981 Porsche 911 SC will certainly anger more than a few purists, but to us, it’s a pretty amazing ride with loads of appeal. It features all of the cool looks we’d expect from an ’80s-style ride, along with a modern and reliable powerplant to boot. Personally, we’d give it some more power and simply drive and enjoy it, undoubtedly turning heads wherever we go.
