Quad Turbo LQ4 Audi S4 Takes on Supercharged Camaro SS in Wicked Quick Drag Race

Quad Turbo LQ4 Audi S4 vs Supercharged Camaro SS

Despite its power disadvantage, this wicked GM-powered Audi S4 has no problem slaying an equally wicked Camaro SS.

Hoonigan‘s This vs. That series has long been a favorite around these parts, largely because it pits all kinds of interesting builds – and sometimes, stock rides – against each other to answer one simple question – which can get down the drag strip first? Of course, there’s plenty of humorous banter between those folks and the owners of the vehicles in between, but let’s be honest – aside from learning about these interesting builds, we’re here for the drag racing action. This latest installment of This vs. That certainly delivers, as it pits a wild quad turbocharged, LQ4-swapped Audi S4 against a Camaro SS that’s pumping out serious power, too.

On one side, we have a 2001 Audi S4 that’s generating an estimated 900 horsepower from its GM-sourced powerplant, which is mated to a six-speed manual in a car that has all-wheel drive and weighs around 3,400 pounds. Today, it must take on a newer 2016 Camaro SS, which is no longer equipped with its original powerplant, but rather, a 6.4-liter V8, albeit one packing a supercharger and churning out 1,040 horsepower. It’s also equipped with a six-speed manual, but tips the scales at a heavier 3,840 pounds.

In the first round, the Audi makes use of its lighter weight and extra traction by getting an advantage off the line, and doesn’t look back as it rockets ahead to an easy victory. The crew notes that in these no prep conditions, the Audi’s slicks help more than a little as well. Regardless, This vs. That isn’t just about one race, so the two opponents negotiate a 40mph roll, helping to take the traction advantage out of the equation.

Ultimately, it doesn’t matter, however, as the Audi stays right with the Camaro SS from the start, and then rockets ahead with ease to claim another win – and an overall victory. However, the duo decides to do it again with a two-car head start and the hit for the Camaro, but that doesn’t make a bit of a difference. It’s pretty clear that the Audi has far more top end power, if nothing else, which the Camaro owner admits early on – his 1k figure is at the peak of the power band, which in this case, isn’t quite enough to overcome its low-end deficiencies.
