Formula Drift is now in the territory of the heyday of the Can-Am series. If your car isn’t making at least 700 horsepower, you’re not going to keep up! One of those guys who are making more than 1,000 horsepower is Darren McNamara of Falken Tires. His Nissan Silvia built by SPD Metal Works in Anaheim, California is making a reported 1,100 horsepower. As if that wasn’t scary enough, it has the potential to make more as it’s running under 10 psi of boost and the engine is built to withstand over 17 psi.
Unlike teammate Daijiro Yoshihara’s Falken Tires Subaru BRZ, the Falken Silvia’s car wasn’t originally intended to have turbos and the car behaves far differently. It suits Darren’s driving style more as he’s more used to turbo cars over NA cars. The Irish driver competes in the ProDrift championship in his homeland with a Toyota Corolla powered by a turbocharged rotary engine.
