Crazy Drifting Corvette C5

We are not sure what is more impressive, the drifting or the incredible drone work. Enjoy both in one of the best drifting videos ever.

Wow. We must have watched this drifting clip about 50 times so far. We can’t take our eyes off of it. It looks like a damn video game. The driving, the car and the video work are all awesome. Put it all together and it is a clip that you just let run on a constant loop. This car just tears it up at Spirit Peaks Raceway in Washington state. The dance this car does around the course can’t help but put a smile on your face. Your smile will get ever bigger when you understand what is under the hood.

If you are going to build a drift car, going with LS power is a good start. Shawn Olin knows this, and he wisely chose a 2000 fixed roof coupe Corvette as the basis of the build. The video was posted on his Instagram page. We highly recommend checking it out for even more great videos of this machine. Olin kindly provided us with some additional photos and details of his build. The car is not just a drift machine, it is setup to hit the strip as well. The best time thus far is a 10.3 in the quarter.

Modified Corvettes that can run multiple venues are not new, but this car has a style all its own. There is a lot more to it than just the big Precision turbos under the hood. Well sticking through the hood if we are honest.

LS block

The engine is a Gen 4 LQ4 6.0-liter with a BTR twin turbo Stage 2 cam and some other little goodies. Before the turbos were slapped on Olin ran the car for a year in normally aspirated trim. It was putting out about 370 horsepower to the wheels. Adding the snails boosted that to just shy of 850 horsepower.

That power is handled by a ceramic Monster Clutch connected to a stock T56 transmission. Speaking stock there is more stock about this build than you might think. Stock bottom end, stock heads, stock LS1 intake and throttle body. It is really just cam and turbos. Olin said that he tries to keep as much stock as possible as he feels stock is generally more reliable.

C5 cage

To make it all drifty there are custom steering knuckles that Olin made himself. There is also a Nameless performance hydraulic e-brake. A car like this does require some safety items so it does have a roll cage inside. That helps give the driver confidence when doing a 360-degree spin while entering a turn.

C5 Steering angle for drifting

We get to see the drifts and spins thanks to some fantastic drone work. Recording a car drifting by from the side of the track is cool and all. However, this C5 Corvette has got a drone a couple feet above its roof for nearly the whole clip. It gives us a great perspective we don’t normally get. In a way it almost looks fake. If you were not looking closely you could easily think this was captured on an Xbox.

General Motors has recently announced that they plan to exclusively offer electric vehicles by 2035. The clock is ticking folks. Hopefully the LS will live on for many decades to come. We want people like Olin to be able to continue to build outrageous machines like this. Although these may just be a thing of the past for future generations. So, enjoy it while you got it. Turn up the volume and watch this baby rip!
