SEMA Action Network Sponsors RASR to Discourage Illegal Street Racing

The risks of illegal street racing are oft discussed amongst members of the public and the media. It sometimes seems the risks are obvious to everyone – except those participating. Despite numerous crashes, and the aforementioned illegality, street racing continues.  However, the SEMA Action Network (the legislative/lobbying arm of the organization) wants to change all that welcoming Racers Against Street Racing (RASR) to its network. The organization has one motto: “IF YOU WANT TO RACE, GO TO A RACETRACK.”

To support that concept, RASR offers resources such as a dedicated track-finding feature for behind the wheel solutions, and downloadable public service announcements, SEMA-model legislation and more for those more interested in advocating for moving racing back to the track exclusively.

Street racing is controversial at the best of times, but the danger is hard to ignore when the news is full of crash stories. So what’s the lure? Money, prestige, proving your car is better than anyone else’s? Is street racing a forum for testing your car’s mettle, or a dangerous pastime? And will organizations like RASR make any difference?

Is RASR, and organizations like it, the answer to illegal Street Racing?
