Default 2006 evo ix mr 12.82 @ 107.41

These runs happened a while, back, but i'm new here so i figured i'd post. only power mods are a dirty K&N filter, and HKS carbon Ti catback. spun my *** off on the cold track and cold tires, but still managed to break into the 12's. i should have been down in the 1.6-1.7 range on the 60' but I was running with the suspension stiffness set for autocross, i was running 48psi front, 44psi in the rear (autoX settings). The track temp was 40*, and I had no way to get around the waterbox, or to warm up the tires. I spun all 4 tires through most of first gear.

I was also fighting another gremlin i didn't know about the night i made the runs. When i finally got another IC pipe and replaced my damaged one today. i found out it was damaged about a month ago when my car was having the clutch and timing belt done. apparently i've been driving with this for over 2 years now and didn't know it. when i had a boost leak test done, this was a pretty obvious, and pretty loud one lol. what's funny is that this was on the car for every trip i've made to the drag strip, and just about every autocross i've run since i bought the car. the accident that happened that damaged that pipe happened less than a year after i bought the car. the intercooler and lower IC pipe was replaced, but i guess they neglected the lower section of the upper pipe. anyway, the car feels a lot better now. runs smoother and stronger. i always had a suspicion that i had a boost leak, but after i ran 12's in the car i figured it was just in my head...guess i was wrong lol

with a good AWD 60' of 1.6-1.7 i should be able to hit 12.5-12.6 the way the car sits. That's not counting what i may have picked up from fixing that boost leak. When i have time, i'll try to make it out to the track and see what i can do. I'm not much of a drag racer, just wanted to prove to people what the car can do. i'm an autocrosser/road racer. i also ran a 12.9 in the car on another occasion with the stock exhaust back on (but still had the boost leak). only made one pass. just wanted to prove the car could hit 12's stock. if i had made a couple more passes, i'm sure i could have gotten that time even lower.

the pipe that was on the car:

the new pipe:

1st run:
1.92 60'
12.92 @ 106.46mph

3rd run:
1.86 60'
12.82 @ 107.41mph

here are the slips from the runs:

So how do you AWD guys launch? Do you just bounce off the limiter and dump the clutch? Nice times btw.

thanks. well 05+ EVO's have a stock 2 step launch limiter on first gear. it limits you to 5000rpm. they did this to try to help save the drivetrains from people revving to 6k and dumping the clutch. To answer your question though, no. 5000rpm isn't enough to just dump the clutch without bogging, and it also puts a lot of stress on the drivetrain because at that RPM the tires won't break loose at stock power levels unless the tires are cold/wet, etc. launching is easy once you realize how to use the 2 step. it also builds about 8-10psi for the launch, so that helps get you off the line as well. now in an STi, there's no launch limiter, so you can either rev it up to 6k and dump it, or slip/dump. The slip/dump method usually seems to be the best.

this is the way i launch the car:

Step 1: Stop

Step 2: Push in the clutch

Step 3: Put the car in first gear

Step 4: Let the clutch out to find where it engages and hold it just before that (it'll make it easier to slip/dump)

Step 5: Floor the gas, and hold it to the floor. You will start bouncing off the 2-step at 5000rpm and build around 8-10psi.

Step 6: DO NOT let off the gas pedal at ALL, slip out the clutch until you feel it grab, then let go.

Step 7: DO NOT let off of the gas pedal until you shift to 2nd gear. The gas pedal should be held to the floor from the beginning until you shift to 2nd.

Step 8: Continue shifting gears accordingly.

That's pretty bad ***. AWD cars pull 60' times like f-bodies that have slicks. Are you ever worried about breaking anything or do evo's rarely have anything go? I know I'm worried about my 10 bolt rear end.

Do you have a tune? A bolt-on evo 9 should trap 112+ mph especially in the cold air.

i wouldn't exactly call my car a bolt on EVO IX lol. all i have is a catback, no tune. the car is much closer to stock than "bolt on" status.

sounds like a beast. no EVO's run high 13's unless they've got a bad driver though...just saying.
