Default Milan 6/6/07 Allngn_c5 first time out

I went to Milan last night and was very excited to see what my car could do. As soon as I got cleared by tech to run someone dropped their bottom end on the track and crashed. It took a long time almost 2 hrs to get the ambulance in and out and the track cleared for racing. Not sure of the extent to the injuries but nothing serious was mentioned over the PA so I am going to hope the driver was ok.

Now its my turn I am lined up against a newer Mustang GT. I am trying to get my rented helmet on correctly and didn't realize I had staged. So I have a 1.4xx reaction time (lol) and cut a 2.3xx 60 ft. I ended up running 12.3 at 121.8 mph. The second run was a bit quicker in the 60, 2.2xx but bumped the rev limiter in 2nd but still ran 12.3 but only 120.6 mph. I know this car has a much lower ET, I just need to get off the line in the 1.8xx's with some DR's that I will be picking up. This car should go mid 11's all day. I just have to get her off the line. I ran a third time but it was horrible. Smoked her off the line and the rest is history.

One thing about last nights experience. So long of a wait in between runs made it hard to stay focused on what happened the run before. I am happy with the results considering I was on street tires and it was my first time. I could've dropped the tire psi to 20#'s and probably picked up a couple of tenths in my 60 but I didn't have any way to refill my tires for the drive home. Live and learn. Hopefully hit those 11's I want next time.

The car ran good, sounded good, never got hot and ran fine on the way home. I actually got to run a Gt 500 from an 80 roll on the way home. 80 - 140 I had him by a couple of cars. Good race for me, he must've been pissed because he flipped me off as he went by and when I caught up he wouldn't look at me. He just let off and hit his brakes for an exit that obviously wasn't his.

Met Regal 1 (TJ) at the track. Very nice guy. Kinda cool when someone comes up and says are you Doug ? I know you from LS1 tech.

Nice runs for you first time Doug. When I get back to michigan we will have to go to Milan and do some runs. My best time was 12.5 @ 119.3 in 90 degree weather at Milan. But, before the retune, injectors, clutch, and tightened intake manifold bolts on a cool day I went 12.8 @ 120.6. I am pretty impressed with your E.T. Those tires must of hooked well in second gear.

What does your car weigh and what was the DA there last night? Even with a 2.2 60' I would think that car could easily trap 125...air must have sucked. Don't get discouraged, almost 11s first time out isn't bad at all. With the power that car is making I'd guess you'd be trapping around 128-130 in good air with solid powershifts on tires.
I hear ya on having to wait, I'm always careful to pick and choose when I run mine carefully because we seem to always have some yahoos or events going on in conjunction with test and tune that slows the whole night.
Congrats on the GT500 kill, theres a kid where I live that was driving one the other day that I drove by, naturally I was in the daily!

Not sure what the DA was.....but it was very cool for a June evening. I just need some more practice and better tires. It would be nice to get invited to a private track rental and see what she can do on back to back runs so I can better correct the mistakes I made on the previous run. 2 hr waits between runs SUCK. All in all it was quite the learning experience. Want to say thanks to the guys at LG Motorsports for doing a wonderful job on my car. She definately has more in her, just need to hook up off the line to show what she can do. Got to remember my runs were on street tires and stock suspension. Didn't even drop the pressure in my tires. A few lbs of pressure out of the tires could've maybe got me into the 11's. I am running 3.42's in the rear and this car is a trip/cruise car 99.9999% of the time and not going to be modded for the track. One of the guys I was talking to said I should've pumped up the fronts to 40 psi and dropped the rears to 20 psi. I'll keep that in mind for next time. Every little bit helps.

i dont understand. i ran my old set up once at the track also
stock 243 heads
t-rex cam
fast90/ls2
shitty leaking headers
and i managed a 12.4@120.7 on a 2.1 60ft

my rwhp was 419/386tq with as much more hp and torque you had over me i would think youd be cuttin 123-124 trap.

That makes two of us. I know I shifted early and clean on the first run and did my best trap of nearly 122. I tried to shift as near the rev limiter as possible and bumped it on my 2/3 and 3/4 shifts and still managed a 120.6 trap. I had my best 60 on the second run 2.28x vs 2.33x on the first. Had that second run been shifted clean I'd have seen 123-124 for sure. I also need DR's in a major way to get off the line better. 2.2 isn't going to cut it. I need to be 1.8xx or better to see mid 11's.

I ran into Fadi at the track. He was taping some of the runs. Maybe he will post up and link everyone to one of my runs. Hopefully he doesn't post race 3 where I sat and spun terribly. Too much throttle LOL !!

Damn I wish I would have gotten there a little earlier. I'd have liked to have met you. Regal 1 (TJ) came up to me and said you must be Doug after taking a look at my car. That was cool, we BS'd about cars and stuff, nice guy. It's nice to meet some of the people from LS1tech. I haven't met anyone yet that wasn't cool.

Thanks for the kind words. It was pretty easy to figure out it was your car after seeing the videos and all the LG graphs posted here and then seeing the engine cover signed by LG. It is cool to meet people from the site. I met 02 wife down there a couple years ago, and now I talk to him through the site regularly too.

It definatley was a tough night to get runs in. I think I got 5 total and 2 of them were before 5:00. The air was decent, I'd guess the DA was about 1200-1500 feet. But the track surface wasn't that great with all the oil downs and breakage there was last night.

Doug, I dont know if you go on corvetteforum at all, but i know that they rent the track a couple times a year. It's pretty awesome, for $35 entry you usually get as many passes as you want and the track surface is kept alot nicer. Last year they did it in october on a thursday from 6:00 till 9:00 and i got almost 20 passes in and by about 8:30 there were only about 4 cars making passes.

I'll have to join up and see if I can get an invite. Or can you let me know and see if they will let me join in the fun. I think I'll do better next time with the BFG DR's I just ordered. Thanks for the info. Stay in touch

Here is one video I was able to get of Doug. This was his best run that I witnessed. Right after him, a C6 Z06 (I raced this guy before in my car) ran his car and I thought I would throw that in there to show hte difference in launches. If you were to rev up like this guy did, Doug, you would have also ran an 11 sec pass.

That was my second run. Wish you had gotten my 121.8 mph 12.30 run instead. However I am glad you don't have my last run. It was a disaster. The traction issue will be corrected some with the DR's and more practice. Thanks for posting the vid Fadi
