Default 12's with a stock LS1 in what kinda car !?!?

Hello everyone, I just thought I would introduce myself (Henry) and my car Christine to everyone else in the 12 second family.

Christine is a 1978 Chevrolet Caprice Classic 2 door Coupe. As far as I know (I could be wrong) Christine is the only 1977-1979 Chevrolet Caprice 2-Door Coupe to be LS1 Powered.

Stock 1998 Trans Am LS1/ TH350
New personal best of 12.74 @ 104 mph

The thread: https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...=40753&page=32

Here is a video of my 12.7 pass at KCIR.

Congrats on hitting the 12's. And since you said it, what does that tank weigh in at? I learned to drive in a 4-door 79' with a 305 that couldn't get out of its own way. But it was rocking the same rally's you've got atleast, lol.

Thanks for the compliments ! Its funny how many people have driven, owned or knew someone that had a Caprice. They used to be popular back in the day.

I think with a tank of gas, and me in it (I'm around 190-200 lbs) it is close to 4,000 lbs or so.

Nice times for a Caprice!! So the LS1 is in the Caprice and out of a Trans Am, right? What gears are in it? Is it a posi? My first car was a 1966 Caprice with a 327/powerglide in it lol in 1971!

Thanks for the kind words! An yep, the the LS1 is from a wrecked 1998 Trans Am and I am running a 3:73 Auburn Posi. I am spinning just about 5,500-5,700 rpm at the top of 3rd (TH350 tranny) going through the "big end".

Have any pics of your 66 Caprice you used to have?

Thank you greatly ! I am very pleased that there are some people on here that still like inexpensive ugly sleepers like mine.

I take a liking to B-bodies, particularly wagons but I like the coupes as well. I wanted my neighbor's '85 Navy metallic Caprice coupe for as long as I could remember. Making something like this move like a bat outta hell must be quite satisfying.

I too have always been partial to GM B-Bodies as well. Christine (my Caprice) was my very first car I bought at age 16 and I have owned more then a dozen other cars since I got her, but still have managed to always hold on to her an keep the ol'girl around.

I love taking her to the track and people start seeing the numbers its turning in such a large old car with its stock 98 LS1. It seems to always draw a crowd whenever I pop the hood (Im guessing its from the "Wow that almost looks factory...but why the hell did the owner put it in this old boat" type factor.), even at Mustang events.

Thank you for the compliments ! It just shows that it doesn't take a "sports car" to go fast.

By the way, what kind of Buick do you own?

I have a few friends with Turbo cars. The Turbo cars in the video are Chad with his Twin Turbo Lincoln Mark VII and Skinnies with his Turbo LT1 Formula.

With FULL fluids Plus me (I am almost 200 lbs) iI bet it is around 3800 lbs or so I bet. I am betting Christine is as quick as she is due to the fact that the stock LS1 is backed by a TH350 with a converter.

Very nice! Now put it in a Vega with a 200 shot and go low 10s, without even breaking a sweat. LOL

I would but the Vega (and other light cars) is far too common. I like racing a heavy brick instead.

You and a friend of mine. He has a 350 in his and sprays about a 150 shot to go 12.50s.
