Default dual cam tech

Has anyone read anything from GM or other sources about the possibility of a dual pushrod motor

Although it doesn’t go in to detail about it, the new gmhtp magazine has a computer image of what it could look like.

It keeps the ohv/pushrod design, but instead of one cam shaft in the block there is two, one on top of the other. The intake and exhaust valves are independently controlled, one cam shaft for intake and one for exhaust.

any thoughts...

Seems like a lot of complication. Deck would increase dramatically to make room. How would you drive the second shaft?

Back in 2000 gm powertrain developed the Global XV8 that had many innovative features. It seemed that the only GM division that was interested was Opel and featured the XV8 in the 2001 Signum concept. But after opel canceled the Omega V8 (using an ls1) just before production in 2001 it seems the project got shelved. hopefully they will bring it back with increased displacement and squeeze 500+hp out of it with great mileage.

Prototype engine ‘Global XV8’ (GM Powertrain)
All-aluminum, direct injection gasoline, cylinder deactivation, variable camshaft position, 4.3-liter capacity, eight cylinders in 75 degree V-arrangement, 24 valves
Performance / torque: approx. 220 kW/300 hp / approx. 400 Nm
Consumption (MVEG): approx. 9.8 liters of supergrade fuel per 100 km

you guys know that you can have 4 valves per cylinder with a single cam push rod design. if you do not believe me look at most of the diesels out there.

i used to own a LT1 and was in the LT1 section all the time and there was guy that had 4 valve heads on his LT1. and also aeroengineering makes 4 valve heads for the LSx platform

It's not about having 4-valves per cylinder, it's about having independent phasing of the intake and exhaust valve events. Think variable cam LSA. . . .

it was rumored a couple years ago that the dual pushrod engine was in its blueprint phase for the new genaration of LSX engines. but as stated above it has been aeround since 2000

i just looked at the aeroengineering website and those are some really nice cylinder heads, but not for 8000 dollars.
