Hi, I'm new here, so let me first say hi. I live on Long Island in NY, and I have had my '02 Z28 2 weeks this Monday.
Anyways, is anyone else with this color really disappointed in the lack of quality of the paint?
I notice especially on the doors a blotchiness/thinness in certain light conditions, but the whole car has it's areas. The doors are also wavier than the freakin Atlantic Ocean...
I dunno, I'm ready to write a letter with pictures to GM, because as sad as it is, my old '86 IROC-Z had nicer paint and straighter panels...

I can't tell from your pics. But my cars paint is well laid out.A little orange peel here and there but not bad.The thing that really ticks me off is the way the fenders don't match the body

Yeah, in those pics it looks fine, but I took some 35mm close ups today and had them developed and you can really see how bad it looks...
I dunno, I just figured a new car should be damn near perfect, and better than what I had. Just for a comparison, here was my '86's paint...

The '02 isn't TOO bad, but I am a fussy bastard, and I figured that for the $18,000 price difference between the 2 cars, I wouldn't find obvious paint flaws...

The Formula is my second pewter car. I love the color. Most of the time you will get a question like "what color is that". the next phrase is "I like it" !

It isn't really the waviness that bothers me, it's the thinness and blotchiness of the metallic...
I went around to a few dealers today looking at the paintjobs on the Camaros, and quite honestly, all the metallic silver and pewter cars looked like ****. Maybe I'm too fussy, but to me there's no excuse for this. Reasons like this are why these cars aren't selling and why GM is stopping them after this year.
The paint on my '87 TA (which is all original) runs circles around this car.

Yes Stuart S I have noticed that the quality of paint GM uses on our cars is not good the only thing you can do while the car is new is order alot of Zaino and also clay bar your car. That stuff is like magic. Just ask Bigbos.

Yea, GM's paint quality isnt the best, oh well...we don't have luxury cars here...mine has the "wavy" look on both doors, and that is the only part on the car...you can go to the extreme and go through the whole wetsanding process which has worked for many, I haven't tried it yet and I really don't think I will...I just use a crap load of zaino and in the summer the car will see about 3 coats a week...

Personally I think your pewter car looks good, I wish silver was available for 01, that would of been my color of choice..

my whole WS6 is damn near perfect for the exception of the front of the drivers door.from the door crease back for about a foot,it looks faded when the sun shines on it.it will be getting fixed when it goes in for an oil change.

What you're describing is called "zebra" stripes. It's caused by the car being painted too fast with paint that has too much 'vehicle' vs. 'metal flake'. It's very common on GM cars - especially light metallics.
My 2000 Sebring Silver SS has the same problem. I elected to leave it "stock". My buddy at a local paint sop said it wouldn't be worth repainting because aftermarket paint has its own problems. I would just be trading one eye sore for another. Just do what I do - ignore it.

Just make the car look really nice with some Zaino and it will solve all the problems, you really won't notice the paint "problem" anymore...

I have the same thing on the rear driver's side panel and behind the tires on a few places. I hate looking at it. I hope alot of wax will help it look better. It looks like they didn't use enought clear coat on these places.
