Painted or Smoked Tail Lights Chime In!!
I'm looking to darken my tail lights but I'm not a fan of the covers, so my question is, for those of you that have painted your tail lights black, How'd you go about doing it and keeping them from dulling out.
Pics are appreciated as well.

Those actually look really nice. What brand are they and can you get a couple close ups on them from the side? Also is the center piece covered as well or did you paint it?

I used VHT tint and clear coated over them. Never do anything to keep them clear. Just was them and wax them whe I wax the car. I left the reverse light out to be different.
Here is a pic of mine. I used more than the recommened three coats.LOL more like 8-10. You still can see them during the day. I did the rear bumper lights and 3rd break light too.

That's good I'm just trying to get an idea of how far they stick out on top of the tail lights. They actually look alot better than I remember them looking. My buddy had a set and they looked like crap. Maybe he just had a cheap set or something.

Def. Go with VHT nightshade. there is a write up some where on here. i have done all my lights except my headlights obviously on my 96 formula. just scuff them up with a brillo pad, then clean it very good and spray the vht on in light coats until u get them as dark as u want them. then let that dry and then spray clear on them. i sprayed about 4 or 5 coats of vht and about 3 or 4 coats of clear. they turned out just right a little dark, but thats the way i wanted them. good luck on this. hope this helps. its acctually pretty easy to do.
