Default Removable top instead of ttops?

I have a 1998 Z28. It was one of the few that didn't not come with T-tops (i regret not getting them). I was wondering, would a body shop attempt to do a removable top, such as the C5's have? If anyone has a guesstimate at price range, i'd be much obliged Oh yeah, recommend places that do this custom stuff in texas, thanks!

I think that would be awesome. If I had a vette that would be one option that would be a must.I think it will look sweet.

I don't see it being safe without a full cage and subframe connectors. I have cut the center piece out of a 3rd gen t-top car and even with the car braced it jumped about an inch. I don't think it would be a good decision structuraly to do.

Disclaimer: the car I cut apart was purchased only for parts and was unsalvageable, I don't just cut up cars

Well would a shop attempt to do a t-top conversion from a hardtop? Just looking at my options, i hate being jealous of a 6 cylinder with ttops.

Yes, there are places that do custom T-tops for about $1k out the door. I may get them eventually. It's not a bad deal since that's what they cost as a factory option so it's not like you're getting raped. I like the idea of a targa top too. I have BMR SFCs and STB, and will have a 5 point cage. Should be enough structually, and it will be better with the top on.

However, I suspect the cost would be prohibitive. The glass would probably have to be custom made, u nless you could somehow retrofit a vette targa top or something, but I doubt it. Otherwise the rest of the cost should be the same, since it's basically the same thing except you cut the center part out too. Considering a single glass t-top costs ~700 from GM I believe, I can't imagine how much a custom single top would cost, yikes!

I don't think that the structure would be able to withstand going to a targa top. The center brace on the t-top cars is an integral member of the structure of the car.

Be very careful when it comes to structural changes to your car.

I can't see the T-top bar being of that much concern structuraly, since the floorpan is the same as a convertible. I bet you'ld be fine with a good set of SFCs

I wanted to do this too, but when I spoke to a guy at a sunroof place, he said it could be done, but the a pillars would need to be majorly reinforced. Our cars weren't structured for it.
