Default Anyone painted there gauge pods to match stock.

Well I have everything I need to do my project this weekend. I have the new dash pad (mine cracked), duel Aeroforce guages, and double gauge pillar replacement. My problem is that the pillar is black. Has anyone painted theres to match the rest of inside abs pieces? If so what color (name) should I look for. Thanks for any help.

OK, I went picked up the paint. Turns out the duplicolor bumper paint is an exact match. I used a piece of dash pad to match the cap color. I will paint it this weekend and post pics since there is hardly any info about this on the board. As along as the paint is the same color as the cap everything should match.

let us know how that works for you man. i know there is a company called SEM that sells interior matched paints but it has to be special ordered. that would be great if something you can get locally matches. i've been wanting a triple pillar pod and this is part of the reason I havent done it yet.

When I bought my gauge pod from Summit Racing it had "suggested items" and they were interior-matched paint for interior colors of my model. I didn't paint it though, you barely even notice the difference

Yeah I will post pics. I search the forum and found little info. I am going to try to paint it today if I get a chance. If not, I know what I will be doing Saturday. I guess it depends on who made the pillar if it is close or not in color. My pillar is jet black and the rest of the trim in my car is charcoal, it is not close in color.

You mean like this?

Sorry about the poor shots. The car is apart waiting for it's new cluster to arrive.

I used SEM Graphite...matched perfectly to my 96 graphite interior. I blended the pod into the A-pillar using fiberglass and body filler. Looks like it came from the factory.

How long did it take you to blend it in? Was it difficult? and last but not least did you do it in the car or take everything off?

OK guys I think I have a match. Only one problem. My vent ring is smaller than the hole for it on the pillar. Seems like I can't win. I will figure somthing out.
Anyway here is the pic of the stock vent ring and the pillar I painted.
I used the adhesion spray and duplicolor bumper paint both rattle cans. I will post the exact color tommorow I left the cans at work. I very happy with the match.

Took a couple of days between coats to dry. It's not that hard. Blend it in with layers (thin) of Bondo. Sand smooth.

I used all of SEMs products...start to finish.

You have to do this out of the car. I can't imagine how you could do it in the car

I used SEM plastic bond spray stuff/adhestion premotor and the SEM dark graphite/gray color on my A-pillar and it matched perfectly to my '98 Z28 dash/trim. It was real easy, just clean the pillar with rubbing alcohol, make sure its good and dry, and then spray the plastic bond stuff on it, and the gray paint right after. Dried to the touch in about 5-10 mins and has help up great. I'll try and find a good pic of it.

Lol I know, I don't even know why i asked that. My only concern with blending it, is what if one of the wires falls out or your have to get behind the gauge, or if you upgrade. Then what

After the pod is attached, you have to cut holes in the back of the A-pillar so you can access the wires. I basically cut out nearly all of the A-pillar to get my fat-fingers in there to attach the itty-bitty nuts onto the gauge brackets. The other issue is connecting the tiny wires to the gauge.

Without a doubt, that was the hardest part.
