Airing out holes on bumper foam behind grill?
I want to put a performance grill insert in place of the factory grill on my 2000 Z28, but I'm wondering about the bumper foam where the air intakes are. I thought it let air pass through the open vents so I was confused when I took the grill off and found foam. I know it wouldn't do much performance wise, but would it be a bad idea to open them up since water and debris would get through there? I just think it would look much better instead of that dark foam. Any ideas or opinions out there?

It doesn't weight much. Some people on here painted the visible part flat black and put mesh (gutter guard from Home Depot) behind the holes in the grill.

Also, the foam may play some part in a crash. Your insurance might hold it against you if they notice its missing.

And yeah, that is Wings West mesh that comes with the Wings West grille insert.
The bumper supports, front and rear combined, weigh about 40 pounds.

It is a foam piece that goes behind the bumper cover. When you remove the grille insert you can see it. To remove it, there are like 5 pins in it and the only way I can recall to get it off is to remove the whole front bumper cover.

Thank you guys for all the helpful info. I think I'll go with the wings west insert and leave the foam in. Does that insert come with the Camaro logo on it? Your car looks pretty cool OctaneZ28.
