Default G8 type Flipout Key for our cars

Can the VW or G8 key fob with the flip out key be cut for fbody ignition and glove box key.

The ignition key needs the chip usually, but given that VATS is bypassed.

havent seen the g8 or vw keys but my moms audi wasnt really a key it was a metal sliver with a channel in it, instead of the teeth like a normal key

i had always wondered if you could get a smart key setup like the new nissans have where the fob is the key and its all pushbutton on the inside

That's what the G8 keys are and the same with VW. But Mazda's are normal toothed keys and they flip out

G8 Key

VW Key

Both are "switch-blade" style.

would you be able to program the alarm and stuff for that key? otherwise i don't see a point to having it just so a key flips out.

Thats the sole reason I was curios about this. I already have a remote from an after market alarm, so programming the G8 key fob's remote with my alarm is not a concern.

yea but then you are carrying around two remotes, i don't really see the point. if it could be programmed i think it would be awesome though. just my 2 cents.

You would need a G8 Igniton would you not? It seems pretty cool. dont know that I would want something that would stick out that far on the side of the steering coloum like that would. seems like it would get in the way.

i don't see how those would work with our ignition since there are tabs on the top/bottom of the ignition which would limit the size of key that would slide in.

Yeah, we would need a whole new igniton setup.. Also dont forget about the Security system. that little design in our keys could create a world of hurt for anything like this.

Wouldnt that need to be bypassed/removed and a totally new igniton slot with keys to match need to be installed to get around this?

Sounds like a LOT of work for a fancy looking key lol.

I don't see the point really, it WOULD be cool if our cars came with these. But to spend money just to have a fancy key seems too out of the way. Imo, of course.

Whats a dremel for? Little plastic tabs wouldn't stand in my way. I had an audi TT and these keys are too cool! When im board i would just sit there lol and flip in it and out. Plus you dont have to worry about accidentally keying anything or stabbing yourself. Ebay has just universal keys no security system, you could easily gut your remote and simply reinstall it in the new one just hook it up to the new buttons. But if were to do anything, i would just go aftermarket smart entry/start like c6s mercedes etc. Just hold the card get in and push the button to start it.
