Oh, OK. I was about to comment on that. Those shrouds definitely need to be trimmed so they don't stick out that far otherwise, you'd be affecting output and it might not fit on the car.

I would try some of Duplicolors "smoke" Metalcast paint to get that black chrome look

Here are some updated pics of the shrouds trimmed and some test fitments.

And in this picture, you can see that it barely clears. It may clear a little more once its aimed right.

Have you considered just making a small plexiglass shield that would fit inside the shroud to protect the lens? I'm not sure if you're going to be able to fit the same style cover that BlackBirdWS6 made, that is, if that was the route you were going.

Yea I either want to make a lens inside the shroud and seal it or vacuum form and lense directly around the shroud. The outer of the shroud is actually metal, didn't know until I started trimming it, but that way it could handle the heat. I'll figure something out. I might have to get your help doin it. How's your project coming?

Mine is coming along very very very slowly. Not really in a hurry since I never drive it, and my two days off a week mostly get taken up doing other things lol.

But yeah if you need a hand with anything let me know, I've pretty much got the vacuum forming down pact now after so much trial and error. I think the easiest thing to do for your shield will be to use the projectors lens as a mold, and form the plexiglass over it. Then just trim it up enough to drop right into the shroud, and silicone it from the inside to hold it into place. Or use JB Weld if you want to be extra cautious.

There are some good threads on HID Planet's Forums on vacuforming.

That shroud looks good there. If you're going to put a lens in the shroud then its position may be fine, but I think it still sticks out a bit far and may affect beam width. Have you looked into making an outer lens that wraps around the whole thing like this:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...-write-up.html

The depth should be more like the shrouds on those FX projectors in the images above or like the shroud on the Murano projector below:

The projector's lens should stick out past the shroud.

This particular shroud sits like that. It has a ring on the inside of it that sits around the projector lens. I tested some light in it and it doesn't affect the beam at all. I was worried about that but I looked at some other retros with the Gatling gun shrouds and they all fit the same way

Just stumbled upon this thread. You are certainly on the right track but I would def. recommend covering up that nice FX-R lens. All it will take are some bugs and stone chips to damage that quickly.

Glad to see more people are attempting this on their LT1 birds.

I'm going to have to agree also, covering up the FX-R lens is going to be a good thing. I like the GATLIN shrouds; originally I purchased those, but thought it would be too large for the install. I'm using the GTi-R shrouds, the height is a little lower and clean up around the FX-R projector for a more OEM look (IMO). It looks like they just fit, but without a cover over the assembly. That setup looks very nice
