Default Body shop is charging me $2,800 to paint & install a Sunoco hood & SS spoiler?!

The body shop is not just painting & installing the hood and the spoiler, but also painting the front bumper, front fenders, and the rear bumper area just so that the paint will match. The shop manager also mentioned that it will take an extra few days to make the Sunoco hood look and fit right. Therefore, he quoted me $2,800.

Does this sound reasonable? And does painting the front bumper, front fenders, and rear bumper area necessary? Also, does VFN Fiberglass usually make poor quality hoods? Do they offer any guarantees against defects? Thanks in advance for the info.

It's called blending and it's usually necessary to get your paint to match. As for the price quote, I dunno. Talk to a few reputable shops in your area and see what the median is and go from there.

In my experience it seems a bit high. For a similar job I was charged $900.

I was quoted 1000 - 1500 to remove, sand, prep, paint and reinstall my front ground effects, headlight lids and front bumper.

2800 is a little high but I could see it.

The shop's name is South Jersey Auto Body in Cologne, NJ. They are the only body shop in the area to use the German version of the BASF paint.

****! That's a lot of money. But I could also see why, if it was a 100% legit paint job, along with fitting it. If you end up going for it, you should make sure no short cuts are taken. That hood better line up PERFECTLY & the paint should also match 110%!

I got mine painted and fitted for 275! With some orange peel, No blending of the bumper of fenders, and about an hours worth of fitting lol, I definitely got what I paid for.

It's high as other's said but not abnormal. You gotta remember, your getting a hood, front and rear bumper, spoiler, and ground effects painted. That work alone is easily $1000 at cheapest. Then if your hood has fitment issues they might need to shim the fenders or something to make it line up and fit, or any type of body work that may be needed for a fiberglass hood. I would say it would be around a $2000 area if its a good shop and isn't taking shortcuts, so $2800 is high but not out of reach.

i had the same work quoted at 1750 at a chevy dealer. I had to take off the parts and take them to him to cut in, then reassemble everything then take it back to them to paint. exact same panels as yours.

that sounds right...

them hoods NEVER fit perfect...if its not an oem spoiler...guess what it wont fit right either. mine fit like crap and i had to do fiberglass work on the 2 middle parts to make them flush with the trunk....also my vfn 4" cowl hood fit like crap too when i did it(plans changed went to a extended cowl now). the cowl wasent even, i had a ton of excess, wide gaps etc etc.

basically....your paying them to make your hood and spoiler fit, paint it, paint the fenders, paint the hood, paint the front bumper and rear bumper. prep for the hood and spoiler......block the gelcoat, primer, block, reprimer, make it straight because no fiberglass parts are even closs to being straight, then paint and blend. its a lot of work.

the price is maybe on the high side by like 200 bucks but if they are a very good shop the your getting your moneys worth. i just did a body kit for an evo....2 bumpers and side skirts and 2 canards. materials ran me roughly 470.00. when i do his hood and spoiler they will be almost 600. i charged 950 for the job total.....thats cutting the guy a deal and without making the parts straight. but thats what he wanted.

Anything that isn't OEM is going to take a little bit more prep work. My Spoiler Company SS spoiler took a little bit of work to look perfect. Where as the OEM SS hood took a lot less effort.

Good Body work is an art! You get what you pay for! My car was 5 shades of white at one time. Hood,Spoiler,Bumpers, Rear Qtr.I kept getting great "deals" $150 to paint a spoiler just drop it off etc...

After seeing my car under shop lights I was sick to my stomach. Had the whole thing painted and blended two years ago and couldn't be happier. With the paint at least. Still have a blown engine

iwould def look around and see if they have pics of their work. see what the inside of the shop looks like. see if you can get pics of it as it is being done or in different stages of being done, talk to the owner and the guy who would be doing the work. Be very specific about what you want and materials etc.. JMO and oh yeah... quality aint cheap..

Sounds about right on par. I've worked in a body shop for about 2 years, and that seems about right. They will prep (scuff, seal and spray), and then have to do work on the spoiler and hood, scuff, seal and spray those. Most people don't understand how much work it truly takes to do a paint job right.

SO, if they're a reputable shop and put out good work that's right on par.

IMO, remember a GOOD paint job, from what I've seen and been around, cost in the neighborhood of $10k.

Quick Reply: Body shop is charging me $2,800 to paint & install a Sunoco hood & SS spoiler?!
