Default Does anybody here have experience with Ziebart for underbody rust protection?

I would like to give my cars added rust protection from road salt. Therefore, I did some research on places that specialize in rust protection and Ziebart, a nationwide chain, came up. They also do window tinting as well. Does anybody have any experience with them for underbody rust protection? Thanks in advance for the info.

I've used Krown over the past winters and had good luck with them.

I don't know if they are only in Canada, or across North America though.

I googled Krown and they're only in Canada. I'm in the U.S. Army and if I get stationed in Fort Drum, which is in upstate New York, I'll make the 1 hour and 30 minute trip to Kingston, ON, to get the Krown rust protection.

My dad used to get all his cars undercoated and never had any rust issues underneath the car...but I remember all the mechanics that had to work on the cars bitching about the coating on the bolts.

I use Krown as well. I think there is a general consensus that an oil based (versus wax or tar type) rust inhibiter is best because it creeps under moisture and displaces it. It can also "travel" to inaccessable parts of the car.

It's awful if you ever work on your car. They cake the bottom in undercoating. I hate dealing with it at the dealership.

Yes, 100% agree with you.

The bottom of my Camaro is disgusting...but at least it's not rusting.

My father had a car ziebarted. Rusted it right the hell out in 3 years. Took 2 years of letter after letter and phone call after phone call. Ended up having to do repairs to almost every panel and a complete repaint. He traded it in about a month after getting it back.

Run the car thru a car wash once a week. Plus, the undersides look like crap and every bolt is a pita to turn....

the best spot ive seen is in Oakville ON8(pm for info), they use a thick coating which works better than most oils(yes it does make it a pita to turn covered bolts, however they arent layered in rust). the salts used in the upper states/canada suck. rust is noticeable in 4 yrs even after some oil sprays. oil sprays become very diluted after a cpl months

i use those guys once every 3 yrs in my dd undercoat rotation, touching up with the oil the other 2 yrs. my parents use a regiment close to this and even still there is rust (2000 silhouette van) around the rockers.

door panels(esp rockers) should be drilled out, sprayed and capped for future reapplications, only way to get good proper coverage. no matter what, driving in salt will rust your undercarriage/rockers, but the oil spray/heavy UC will protect it better, my bro stopped doing it at 5 yrs on his car, its now 9yrs and rusted to %^&# and needs tons of penetrating fluid to remove bolts

a weekly power spray at the local car wash is even useless as i tried that the last yr on my gtp, and there was a lot more rust present in the springtime around the gas tank door and rockers
