Default How to get shift **** off for switch?!

Anyone know how to get the shift **** off a 98Z without destroying it in the process? I want to change it out for a little more personal style. Thanx in advance.

Twist it to the left and right to loosen it up a bit, then just unscrew it counter-clockwise.

I figured that was how, but didn't want to go try to break it without getting advice first. I'll go give it a whirl. Thanx!

That is how you do it for the M6, but on the A4 there is a staple in a slot in the front. Just remove the staple and pull up.

M6 = Manual transmission, 6-speed
A4 = Automatic transmission, 4-speed (OD,D,2,1)

I think the display you showed is 1993-2000 (maybe earlier as well). Im not sure. It doesn't really matter anyway. I just thought that I'd point it out.

Z28Tracks98:
Do you have any pics of what you are changing it to? Maybe you might want to install a leather shift boot as well. Here is a pic of mine:

(The indicator is dark gray, but the flash made it blue.)
