How to get shift knob off for switch?!

How to get shift **** off for switch?! Anyone know how to get the shift **** off a 98Z without destroying it in the process? I want to change it out for a little more personal style. Thanx in advance.

I think the display you showed is 1993-2000 (maybe earlier as well). Im not sure. It doesn't really matter anyway. I just thought that I'd point it out.

Do you have any pics of what you are changing it to? Maybe you might want to install a leather shift boot as well. Here is a pic of mine:
