Does anyone else like sidewall shaving?
I've always liked it, plan on doing it to mine on all four corners soon. I prefer the super smooth sidewall, without lettering and designs.
I know it's popular on classics, but wasn't sure if anyone does it anymore. Especially on newer vehicles.
I've done it a few times, just curious if anyone else has. If you have, post some pics, I can't make up my mind if I want to on mine or not.

i think its a waste of time, we dont have white lettering on our tires and what design or writing on the sidewall isnt all that noticeable. plus no way in hell am i putting an air grinder anywhere near my $250-$300 tire, no matter how easy it is. but i also dont put side dressing on my tires.

Well, my current tires are covered in lettering and stupid little designs and DOT stamps. All raised though, like most are...
I don't do "dressing", but I do apply a sealant or whatever you'd prefer to call it to make sure they are super black and not dull. I hate a shiny tire.

I remember seeing a Nitto tire banner at a dealership years ago, had a Mustang with beefy smoothed tires. I looked into it after that. I've gotta pull my wheels sometime this week so I may go ahead and do it.

3hrs a tire WOW! I would do this if it didn't take so long. I want to paint the letters on the sided wall but don't have the right tires for it. My friend had a gold ta ls1 with gold letters he painted and it made the car pop and gave it that old school look.

I wouldn't do it to the tires on my car...
1) 275/40/17 has a smallish sidewall, so it's not as noticeable.
2) I run Nitto NT05 tires. Not exactly cheap (compared to what a lot of guys run on the street), nor do they have giant ugly sidewall lettering that stands out.

^ Same size tire here but Nitto NT-555 and there's no way I'm doing this to them. That's about like one sneeze away from messing up a perfectly good tire. I'm not saying it doesn't look ok but there's just other safe stuff I can do and not have to worry about really messing up.

I've got used Eagle F1SC EMTs on my bird with 30 and 35 sidewalks that are FULL of letter and ****. It would be cool to grind all that crap off except the "Goodyear." Maybe even color the "Goodyear" in white or yellow or orange like the NASCAR tires... Hell I might just go full smooth...dunno yet.

If you do this with a DA sander there isn't much danger in messing anything up. A high speed grinder, yes.
I'll try to do mine this weekend. I may remove all the detail stuff and just leave NITTO or something like that, we'll see.
