Tint removal

It's not an easy process at all unless you have the right equipment, I just say you leave it and get it professionally done. I had to remove my tint in order to pass inspection here. I had no steamer or anything like that, so I just took a razor blade and some Goo Gone and picked it off piece by piece, took forever. It sucked because it left behind a bunch of nasty glue residue that I could not get off myself without risking scratching the hell out of my windows. My windows looked like **** afterwards as well. I ended up getting my windows re-tinted about 3 weeks ago, and they charged me $100 extra to remove the extra residue I left behind on the hatch and side windows. It came out awesome with the new tint on there, but I wish I had just left my original tint on the windows so they could do it themselves, could have saved some money that way.

I had the windows tinted on my T/A back in 1997 right after I bought the car. I peeled that tint off a few weeks ago to have the windows redone. I pulled it all off in about 5 minutes, and it all came off in one piece without any issues. There was a little glue residue on the hatch glass, but that came off pretty easily with 15 minutes of scrubbing. If quality tint was used, you may not have any problems pulling it off.

Ammonia is great for this....that's why they say don't use it to clean your windows. Hosed my rear down with windex, let it soak in the HOT sun, and it literally peeled off.

I use stuff called Zep foaming glass cleaner can but picked up from Home depot. Peel the tint off and spray on the cleaner for anything left let it sit for 5-10 mins and wipe the glue right off.
Worked great on my Suburban to remove the old crappy tint.

I just took the tint off of my 2001 WS.6 to the best of my knowledge it was on there since the car was new. The method I used peeled both the tint and the glue in one sheet and did not harm the rear defroster lines. I went to Walmart and bought a hand held steamer. Use the steamer to heat up the glue through the tint. There is a video online of how to remove tint with a steamer. I did it and it worked perfect. Removing the tint is typically easy, the glue left behind, not so much.
I do a LOT of these and here is what works at my shop quickly and efficiently with NO risk to the rest of the car using harsh chemicals!
What you need:
1. Fresh CLEAN and new razor blade
2. New PLASTIC razor blade
3. Spray bottle with water and a little Johnson & Johnson's Baby Shampoo (no joke).
On a hot day, or with a hair drier/heat gun, get the film warm and pull it off. Once off spray the residue liberally with the soapy mix you made. Then start sliding the razor across the glass and the glue will come off in sheets! Its so easy!
For rear windows with defroster lines, you have to use the plastic blade or risk destroying the defroster lines.
Takes me about 45 min to do 2 side windows start to finish. And since its just some light soapy water its not going to hurt the paint or the interior in any way, or have you breathing in fumes.
