Default Did I over wax my car?

So today I washed my car for the first time in months. After I was done, I waxed it with Meguires NXT Tech Wax. I bought this stuff last year but couldn't remember if I had ever used it. So I did what the directions said, putting the wax on the applicator and wiping it on. The applicator is sort of a coarse sponge type material so I kept it nice and wet so it wouldn't harm the surface of the paint. When I was done, I went inside for 30 min to let it dry so I could wipe it off, but when I went back outside, the stuff wasn't near being dry. When I wiped it with a cloth, it would just spread it around. So I wait an hour, same thing. Now, it's been 6 hours and the stuff still just spreads when I try to wipe it off. It's almost like a grease that doesn't absorb or disappear when I wipe it.

So did I put too much of this stuff on or is something else going on? I've never seen or heard of a wax doing this.

Also, do I risk doing any damage to the paint with this stuff sitting on it for this long?

No it was in the shade, but it was 100 degrees outside.

Hmm have you tried to remove it? It could make an even bigger mess on the car if it stays liquidy and and the wind blows

It's not a liquid right now, it's almost like a grease. When I try to wipe it off, it just spreads. The whole car looks like it has a thin coat of vasaleen on it.

you have to use a microfiber towel to get the wax off.

That being said the first time i used NXT it did the same thing. wash the car again and re apply, its just a greasy solution.

I would use dawn to wash and get all the wax off and then reapply but much lighter. I think you did put too much on.

Yeah and your comment is why some people should be kept away from forums. Totally unnecessary and completely off topic. Next time, try and help the guy out.

I just used that stuff the other day. I notice you are in TX, are you in a humid part of TX? If so, forget it. You're going to need to wait till you can get the car somewhere not so humid. That stuff seems to be humidity sensitive.
With that said, saturday around me it was dry and hot and this stuff was somewhat difficult to remove, but in the end turned out well. My glaze was a bitch to remove though for sure. Detail spray for claybaring kept drying almost instantly. But I'll take the dry over humid anyday here in MI.

I would just re-wash the car with Dawn and go over it real good and either try to apply the wax in smaller amounts or go buy something different. Just my $0.02 though.

In the 10 years I've had my car, I've pulled my engine and trans more than I've waxed it. I guess my priorities aren't the same as yours.

definitely use a microfiber towel, but the towel may be getting alot of wax built up on it, if thats the case you might have to go through multiple towels if you put it on too thick

Give it a healthy wash and reassess.
