well I finally got a GG DA and put it to the test on my camaro today. Need some advice though. I used a uber 5.5 yellow pad with 105 for 2 passes on 4. Swirls were removed to my liking. Then 1 pass with 205 on the uber green pad at 4. Now I almost have what looks like holograms on my hood. Was my yellow pad too aggressive and the 205 cant quite finish down to that? Should I try the green pad with 105 then my 205 on their blue pad? Girlfriend wants me to detail her GTO already today too. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

A D/A polisher by design won't leave holograms like a rotary. However the D/A can leave micromarring(which is from the pad and/or compound being too aggressive) I would suggest taping off a section 1x1 or 2x2 and try different pad combinations to see exactly what's causing it. Can you snap a few pics so we can see what you are seeing? That will help a lot.

Try the blue pad, the green pad is a light cut/polishing pad so I wouldn't finish down with a green. The blue is strictly polishing. If that doesn't work get a black as that is a finishing pad.

You may want to drop the speed down to 3 as well.

I am going to do a head to head against Sonax and Adams Wheel cleaner soon. I will post my results.

Seems that cleaning the pad out more frequently and dropping the speed worked well. Ill edit this with my a picture of my results. Thanks for the advice

Is 3 for polishing? What are you using for swirls? 5, i find anything higher i can barely hold on the damn thing its vibrating to much.

Default Rust removal/Repair

There are rust spots on both sides of my car on the fender well (I believe). Does anyone know how to remove and or repair these types of rust spots. I went and got an estimate today at a collision shop and it was extra steep at $840.

This will be better answered in the paint and body forum. That type of repair is out of the realm of detailing/paint correction. Good auto body work is like good paint correction work, it's not cheap to do it right.

You didn't go too aggressive with the compound. You just forgot a step in between the yellow/ 105 and the green. I personally would use yellow/105 if the swirls are really deep/bad then a follow up of orange/105 and then finish off with 205/white pad before sealing/waxing. You've done the hard part. Just forgot a step. Do the 105/orange then 205/white and not only will you 86 the marring leftover but you'll also pick up a good amount of gloss. Also, increase your speed. I use setting 6 on my Flex for compounding/polishing for the most part. Works better with more heat. Also, lighten up at then end of your buffing each panel. 105/101/205 are all micro abrasives which finish down finer with less pressure. Prevents over hazing but if cutting deep, you generally will have some to a certain extent.

Just scored a 5L jug of Sonax for $60! 5L jug of 1Z cockpit for $48. Grabbed a 32oz bottle of M101 for $32. Three pack of low profile hydrotech pads for $14. Five piece Raceglaze brush set for $20. I have found some ridiculous deals lately that have allowed me to finally restock for the spring/summer.

Jeff/Jason - Seriously, have you guys discovered detailersclub.com yet?

Has anyone used Buff & Shine's new MF pads? I have heard a lot of good things about their foam pads. I'm pretty sure HD's pads are B&S.

I was going to pick up some HD products but Jeff suggested some Menz products. One HD product I'm really interested in is the HD Polish. From what I've read on Autopia its comparable to the Menz 85RD but wipes off a lot easier.

HDs pads are buff and shine, I still need to get some B&S MF pads to try but I saw that someone said the cut isn't as good as Meguiars MF pads

Have you seen the video Barry did showing some new top secret product that he described as "not a polish...not a compound..."?

I don't know how hard the paint he was working on but it seem similar to FG400.

Anyone use a steam cleaner in their lineup? I was looking at a few models and some of them are upwards of 700-1300 dollars.

I don't want to drop that kind of coin for one.

Anyone have one they use with good results that isn't an arm and a leg? I've been pretty impressed with some of the videos I've seen on the net with the cleaning of some of them.

Are you a professional detailer or a hobbyist?

I recently purchased a dupray hill injection unit and it was easily one of the best investments I've made. I know some units such as the Mytee Firebird and Vapamore Primo are well reviewed and in a more affordable $300ish price range. I'm glad that you brought this question up as I've been meaning to chat with Jeff & Jason regarding steam usage.

More of a hobbyist myself, but I would like to start detailing on the side for a little extra cash. Just have not been able to build a client list to go to a more professional status
