If you want it to have a quick release then all you need to do is buy a QR adapter, but it will move the steering wheel back a little bit.

Ever since I purchased my 4th Gen I have been in the category that prefers the look of the Stock Wheel. Aftermarket wheels tend to look "Tacked-on" and as previously mentioned, out of place in the interior of these cars. Not to mention the lose of the Radio Controls is a turn off for me as well.

But here is my dilemma. Last year my Airbags were popped in an accident, giving me the opportunity to see how utterly useless they really are when it comes to the safety of the driver and passenger. The Airbags were the cause of 100% of the damage to the interior of my car and didn't even touch my wife or myself, other than scraping my arms as I held the steering wheel during its deployment. Once I have the car back together, I know I will have absolutely no desire to install a new set of Airbags and risk this happening again.

That being said, I am looking for an aftermarket wheel that most closely matches the finish of the stock wheel so that it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb as many do. I would love to retain the Factory Radio Controls on the wheels, but have yet to see an Aftermarket Piece that supports this option.

The MOMO Millenium EVO below looks very at home in the Firebird below.

Anyone have any advice or opinions on a "Factory-Appearing" Aftermarket Steering Wheel for my 99 Firebird?

I'd have no problem with dying or painting whichever Aftermarket wheel I choose to match my Grey Interior. I just really want it to have the same Texture as the Factory Wheel so it looks like it belongs there.

The EVO looks like a really nice piece. I wonder how difficult it would be to remove the Horn Emblem and replace it with a Pontiac Arrowhead?

I have always preferred factory look but I wish the wheel was thicker on my TA. It didn't seem so thin on the 97 Z28 I used to have but my 02 WS6 steer wheel feels like it belongs in a Saturn

Has anybody put a switch in their aftermarket or stock wheel at all? I want one that I can put a momentary switch in somehow for a trans brake.

01ssreda4, so is this a recent install..? It's nice to have a unobstructed view of the gauge cluster isn't it?

First drive was Monday. I will give my impressions. First note I did not shim the adapter like some recommend and it is a tight fit in the column. So, the steering is much tighter/tougher which I like, leather feel is the same or slightly tougher then stock, the part you hold is noticeably thinner then stock which is nice, more places to put your hands, can see the gauges better, way lighter then the stock wheel, and as the only shiny thing in the interior it makes for a real nice focus point. Overall I'm happy with it.

Not trying to hijack the thread here but can somebody clue me in to the point of changing to an aftermarket steering wheel? From reading the thread so far I've noticed comments regarding a better view of the gauge cluster and a tighter feel. I assume a smaller wheel= the car being more sensitive to turning as well. Am I correct in this? I've never driven a car with an aftermarket wheel hard enough to notice a difference.

Most of it is cosmetic but there are advantages to grip, weight, and diameter.

Also adding a quick disconnect hub can add ease of getting in and out of a car

ive never thought of the quick disconnect as an easier way to getting in and out. Ive always thought of it as a safety feature in case someone wants to steal your car. But i guess both work.

If someone wants to steal a car that wont stop them. But climbing over a cage in a car that is hard to get into stock it does help a bit.
