Default Side molding removal question....(UPDATE W/ PICS)

So I want to take the plunge and remove these suckers out. My concern is the aftermath. My car was repainted last year and they glued back my side molding when I politely told them to keep them off. So anyways, is the adhesive that body shops use the same as factory or stronger glue then normal (hope not)? Think there shouldn't be a problem if I removed w/ the traditional fish line and hair dryer? A bit scared on damaging the paint. Thanks in advance.

You wont know until you try. But heating them up is definitly recommended. Since its a newer job should be easier then 10ish year old adhesive. Try a smaller piece and see where you end up.

That's what I figured, I'll give it a go during the next week. Is Goo Gone a good product to remove the existing dried adhesive upon removal?

Yep goo gone and a microfiber towel. Also make sure you heat it with a hair dryer dont get the paint to hot.

If you have access to a steam gun like they use to remove window tint it makes the job much quicker and cleaner.

Fishing line can be purchased at sporting goods stores or Wal-Mart

Also may want to buy some turtle wax brand polishing compund. It will take out light swirl marks by hand and any faint residue left on. Just apply some on a mf towel and rub on the paint in a straight line. Wipe of and wax

Can I go through the moldings with the hair dryer first before sawing with fishing line? The vid showed the dude sawing first, then using the hair dryer.

Sorry for the "simple" noob questions, I just want to do this right.

No you can just saw through it first. Btw just by the shortest cheapest fishline any type works. Once they are of heat it. Peel as much by hand then start using the goo be gone. Then polish and wax.

I pulled mine off the truck and goo gone alone was helping much.

I found WD40 and a plastic card (old credit card, movie rental card, etc) used as a scraper worked well without damaging the paint.

I'm just a little skeptical about the recent repaint and added adhesive, hoping I don't damage the paint and that fishing line looks like it'll scratch. But like said in the beginning, I won't know until I try.

You should lower it and maybe whistler head lights and a different grill, slp or a billit one...

How do you know the slp grille isn't what I was referring too

I'm considering the whistler headlights and as for the lowering, it won't be for awhile but it already has the stock slp springs which are decent and not that much higher then stranos for example.

Most cars on the road today are going to hit higher up on the door so the strips are basically useless. Removed mine on my T/A and haven't looked back other than to admire.
