Default Double Checking - What Flashers for LED/Switchback DRL's?

Hey guys,

Just double checking as I really didn't find a solid answer. If switching to LED/Switchback DRL's (front corners) will an EL12 electronic flasher retain the factory functionality? Or are you guys using another kind of flasher?

Also where did you get them, Auto Zone? Online?

Thanks!

I think the EL12 works as long as one set of bulbs are standard (front LED, rear standard bulbs for example). It doesn't work when you have front + rear LED as it really isn't an electronic flasher.

I saw somewhere that the EFL1 is a 100% electronic flasher that works in these cars but I haven't tested this as I have no LEDs (aside from the gauge lights anyway).

Thanks Sparky. I'll check them both out. I'm only going to have LED's in the fronts anyway.

Can I pick these up from any car parts store or should I look online?

Also, I was just thinking.. if I change the 3157 bulb to an LED.. what about that other little bulb that's in the corner? Will that stick out like a sore thumb if I leave the standard bulb in there?

Mind if I piggyback your thread? I'd like to know what type of flasher is needed for leds on front and back.

For the other bulb (194), you could switch that out to led as well, it doesn't blink so you won't have a problem.

Do you have mini h1 projectors in your headlights?

Right, the 194 bulb can be anything. Stock wiring doesn't make it blink. I had modded my 98's wiring to make it blink opposite of the front blinker (like a lot of other cars) but I haven't bothered doing that on my 99.

I believe you can get the EL12 anywhere, not sure about the EFL1. I honestly haven't looked that much but I do recall seeing the EL12 at autozone.

I also don't want to steal the thread but was gonna see if any of you had run into this problem. I ordered some switchbacks and they worked when I plugged them in but sometime on my trip theythey stopped so I ordered some different set another member recommended and they won't even light up. The first pair were to big and broke inside the corner but these won't come on at all. Checked both bulbs and checked for polarity. The part that puzzles me is as soon as you plug in the regular bulb they light up just fine. Didn't get to change the flasher before this started.

You say you didn't change the flasher when you put the switchbacks in?

That's your issue, get an EL-12 flasher and try them again. That should work. Those switchbacks are LED and will have the same problem as a regular LED bulb.

Then how does the white portion work when I plugged em in but now I get nothing.. I understand the Ambers won't properly without the flasher.

I did some research prior to making this thread. I read a lot of people saying they lit up at first, and then stopped working (these are all people who didn't change the flasher). I don't know 100% if that IS why as I've never done this before, but I believe that is the reason. It doesn't appear you're the only one.

**Where did you guys get your switchbacks from?

You need 2? I thought the flasher was just 1 unit (I haven't looked).

Turn signal flasher and hazards flasher. Two separate units. Probably a good idea to replace both if the stock hazards flasher doesn't work with LEDs, in case you need your hazards for anything.
