Question How to fix T-Top Bar on a 1999 Trans Am?

Surely I'm not the first guy who has recently purchased a neglected T/A, right?

Is there a known game plan as far as replacing or repairing these things go, or is it a junkyard or GM replacement item only?

Thanks in advance guys.

Remove, sand as needed, prime, paint. I have done this on 2 or 3 cars, very simple fix with big pay-off.

^what he said. And while you're at it, go pick up some "back-to-black" type product (i've used bondo restore black, and mothers back-to-black- both work well, liked the bondo better), and use it on the rubber around the t-tops ... thank me later

^the center bar? Remove the ttops, and there will be 8 phillips head screws holding it down, 4 on each side. BUT, it is held on by a grippy double sided tape, which can be cut through using some thick fishing line In a sawing action. Honestly, I would t even go through the hassle of removing, I'd just tape it off and paint it while still attached. That tape is a bitch to separate. I only did it because I had to remove it to use the targa top.

The bar separated easily on mine and stayed on the car.

I thought about cleaning mine, but once I removed the bar I wrapped it. I found some actual carbon fiber wrap and completely covered the piece.

lol, my whole roof (6LE targa) is done in the 3M carbon fiber vinyl wrap. LOVE it. I was actually thinking about wrapping that center bar myself when I had the t-tops on. never bothered though

For weatherstripping I recommend
einszett Gummi Pflege Stift einszett Gummi Pflege Stift
. Restores weatherstripping and doesn't contain alcohol like Back to Black type products, which are pretty much IDENTICAL to Armor All.

For plastic trim pieces, depending on sheen/location, I recommend Zaino "Z16 Tire Gloss",
Surf City Garage "Dash Away" Surf City Garage "Dash Away"
, or
Vinylex Protectant Spray Vinylex Protectant Spray
, although Gummi Pflege Stift tends to work a tiny bit on certain pieces.
