Making the best out of the stock grille aka welfare SLP grille!
So, I've seen similar ideas to transform the ugly duckling cheap
looking 98-02 4th gen camaro grille.
I put a bowtie badge on the stocker, and I'm debating trying to smooth
out the camaro and possibly move the bowtie badge dead center. This
would give it the look of the 93-97 grille which is much better looking imo.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I might leave it as is..can't decide if I like it how it is or if I should try and smooth out the letters , paint the grill gloss black etc. Anyone go down this road with their Camaro?

I agree with you on the looks of the grill. I have searched all over the net, SLP makes a few versions, RK has a some and I found several other brands but I personally like this one made by Street Scene. It is offered in several finishes, I want the black chrome version.

Would you mind explaining what it is that you did to smooth and
fill the letters? Any pics?

check out my sig and look at my fquick page lots of sand paper. I believe I started with 300, and ended with around 700.. sprayed the base maroon, then the black stripes, then cleared over it all... wet sanded with 1000, then 1500, then 2000, then polished and waxed for a nice smooth finish.... enjoy

Hmm...I was looking and here is my 2 cents. What I would do is:
Fill in the lettering. You could use bondo or something similar, but I would be inclined to use something that could be popped out or removed. This way, if you wanted to go back to the lettered version, you could. You could try using using some sort of expandable foam.
Then shave it down so it's smooth.
After that is all finished, I would get whatever color Plasti-dip, and coat it real good. They have all kinds of different colors and if you wanted to mask it off and spray on the Chevy Bow Tie in red or do whatever else, it would be VERY simple.
I think if you did it this way, and you weren't happy with the results, you would have a minimal investment into the materials and products and could easily go back to what you have.
If it were me, I would completely modify the entire thing and see what it would look like if you moved those two fins (which are in the air opening). Maybe even move the "Camaro" lettering into the opening somehow and do some sort of back lighting.
