Question How do I remove this damn dash pad!?

I have searched and found everything BUT...

I am parting out my Trans Am and I need to remove the dash pad without breaking it any more than it already is. Right now, it's in 4 big pieces and the buyer wanted it so he can piece it back together for some project he's doing.

How do I get the day thing out without cracking more!? Is there a thread on how to remove these?

Take the two A pillars out and you will simply gently pull up on each corner to separate the clips and Velcro holding it down. It is best to start from one corner and slowly work to the middle. Once it is all in clipped and it is separated you should have a easier time getting it out.
If it were in one piece and just cracked then I usually start by taking the passenger side up and putting the drivers side all the way to the back corner and with a slight bend it wil
Come out.

First time I ever removed my dash pad I ended up braking it.

I removed my Dash for the first time a few months ago and it is a PITA! I'm sorry that I don't have a write-up for you, but I do have a bit of advice.

Since you've already worked on it, obviously you already have a lot of the screws, panels and clips removed and there are a **** load of them, but you may be forgetting one that is just to the right of where the Radio mounts. Its a blind screw (7mm) that you have to get to from behind the dash, between it and the Ducting that is screwed to the dash. It was the last piece holding mine in. I tugged and shook my dash for half an hour before I discovered it. Once its out, I'm sure the dash will be free.

I also wanna mention that I dropped my Steering Column down to where it was resting on the driver's seat so I could have plenty of room to pull the dash forward and out of the car.

Plastic thats dried out and brittle will typically respond to moisture. Set a bucket of water in your car overnite which will up the humidity as it evaporates in the air, or if you have humidifier, run it in the car for awhile. Another option is to lay wet( well, damp) towels over the dash piece for awhile. The plastic will absorb the moisture and be less prone to breaking when you remove it. We do alot of plastic sonic welding at my company and have a room that is purposely made to be super humid, so when theres problems with brittleness we can set batches of parts in theres for a period of time. After 1/2 a day in that room, parts are pliable and strong enough to withstand the sonic weld again.

The ABS plastic these dash pads are made of is pretty porous so any of these ideas should at the very least make it less likely to break or crack upon removal.

mine was broken in just a few spots but removing it shattered it into 5 pieces, I put it back together but eveytime I picked it up it cracked somewhere else and is now in 4 or more different pieces (broke on new cracks, not repaired ones) on my back deck getting rained on. getting one off clean is very much unlikely.

As for what to do remove the A-pillars then there are several points across the front of the dash that clip into the rest of the dash, if you get those out then you have some velcro pads up toward the windshield to get free with cracking more.

got mine out in 30 seconds. used a trim tool. a puddy knife would work well too, started at the sides and didnt go too crazy. popped right out. its going to break anyways if its been sitting outside for a billion years. there like 100-200 bucks so i wouldnt worry about it too much. hes probably wanting to plasti dip it.
