Question New SLP SS grille.

Well I got lucky as can be and located a brand new SLP SS grille for my 2001 SS Camaro.
I had almost lost hope but it came by UPS today and looks great.
This thing is really glossy black and I'd like to keep it that way so I need to know what the best thing is to use on it for a finish protectant.
I always used carnauba wax on the old '93 Z28 but if there is something better for this brand new plastic grille I'm all ears.

I'd have a clear bra installed on it, or there are a few products out there that are like a ceramic resin or something that form a hard surface. From what I've heard, the good ceramic coats are the ones that need to be heat cured. Might be pricey for just a little part, but I don't think any wax is going to prevent rock chips and stuff.

Thanks.
Not so much worried about rock chips and such, she'll not be a daily driver.
I'm thinking more like UV protection and something that will keep it from getting scratched while trying to wash bugs and road grime off after a drive.
She'll be garaged most of the time and only come out on nice days, any sand or gravel on the roads left over from winter and she stays in the garage 'till it's cleaned up.

Keep it sealed with a sealant. It won't protect from scratches but they will protect better for bugs and rod grime. A coating will be more durable but they will also not prevent scratching.

Proper washing techniques are more important to keep it looking good and have the least amount of wash induced marring.

Keep a black Sharpie to touch up chips and don't worry about it. Bought a used bowtie grille that had a bunch of small chips. Hit em with the Sharpie and it looks like new unless you're on the ground 3" away from it. Like anything, the only way to keep it perfect is to never take it out of the garage.

In that case, I agree with the Guz. Just get a nice paint sealant applied and then you can top that off with a carnauba wax throughout the year for some added gloss and a bit of extra protection. Maybe try some of Adam's Polishes sealants and waxes. I have an order of stuff from them on the way. I've heard nothing but good things about their products, but they can be expensive.

Thanks all, I appreciate every post.
So you all think the finish is paint?
I thought it was just colored plastic but looking at it close it does look like it may be paint. Anyone know for sure? The back side is black plastic but doesn't have the glossy finish that is on the face of it.

I can't confirm if it is painted or plastic on the front side, but it doesn't hurt to wax/seal plastic. Just don't wax/seal textured plastic or you'll obviously have some residue stuck in the cracks!

I'm pretty sure it's paint, just enough orange peel in it if you look close enough that it looks like paint. I guess I could send an email to SLP and find out for sure, maybe also see what they recommend to protect the finish if it's not paint. Thanks again.

No problem! Good luck with your grille.
