Default Hid led conversion help!

So I want to do HID OR LED Bulbs on my 99 trans am and need some help. The stock headlight housing you can replace the bulb so seems like I have to buy a universal housing and haven't found that many. Has anyone used these and if they have can you tell me if they are quality or trash.

See this thread:
https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...oes-exist.html

And others like it in the Lighting FAQ
https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...hting-faq.html

Basically, if you want better headlights that look stock and are fairly easy to install, get the LMC Truck housings and stick with Halogen bulbs. More info in the threads above. The Lighting FAQ also has threads on HID Projectors.

If you want HID Projectors, there are threads in the Lighting FAQ for that as well.

Oh man....when "VIP1" helped me out last week with all this info......I tried to find the LOW beam housings I bought years ago....thats the ones in that ebay link you posted that I have for my LOW beams. They are great housings.

But "VIP1" showed me the LMC Truck housings and they definitely seem like a newer better design........... I'm ordering the LMC Truck INNER housings for my HIGH beam upgrades. Maybe just order all 4 new housings from LMC Truck.

Today I came across this option....

This kit ($149) will replace any of our 4 headlights (low of high beam). Comes with 2 new glass housings, HID ballasts with two 6000K bulbs. AND....they plug directly into our 98-02 2-prong factory power plugs for low or high beam upgrades. NO CUTTING NEEDED OF THE HOUSINGS. The wires come straight off the bulbs....not a 90 degree angle.
Amazon Amazon

Now...you could also buy a Xentec complete HID kid with 6000K bulbs...for about $40.00........then buy the LMC Truck housings or the other housings for about $80. Save about $20.00.

HID kit: $40.00
https://www.ebay.com/itm/XENTEC-Slim....c100005.m1851

Housings that the OP posted above: $80.00
https://www.ebay.com/itm/Fits-Firebi...gOj:rk:14:pf:0

I'm getting 2 LMC Truck housings and that HID kit above.....for my 2 high beams. Then I'll have four 6000K 55w HID bulbs when my HIGH beams are on.

You shouldn't put HID in halogen reflectors due to negatively altered beam pattern that will glare.

Also, that $149 kit on Amazon is an older style that doesn't have as good a beam to start with. It looks like those ebay ones are the same as well.

And just shoving the metal tabs into the socket isn't good enough. They could move and corrode which can lead to melting.

Yea, the LMC Truck housings are much better. But I think those ebay housings are the exact housings I've had for a few years now with my HIDs in my low beams...they shine a nice narrow beam way out in front of the car.

So, I was wondering about pushing the tabs into the factory plugs. I was thinking of plugging them in, then drip some solder on both sides. Then use that large shrink wrap sleeve that can shrink and seal the entire plug head and wires.

How about doing that...?

With all that effort, just cut them off and replace them with 9005/9006 connectors instead.

You need female connectors on the car since the bulbs are male (and any HID ballast or LED driver as well - most HID kits and LED Kits use 9005/9006 connectors on the input side of the ballast or driver itself).

So that second link looks almost right, but the pictures and descriptions aren't an exact match (some pics show slightly different connector) and you don't need the male connectors so they will be extra.
