again bad *** hood!!!!!!!!!!!! Last edited by Xsta Z 28; Aug 4, 2004 at 01:50 PM.
I hope the quality issues have been straightened out for standard hoods because I really like the look. I don't care for the hood pins but if it's for a race car that's different.
Can he make a CF hood that will use stock hardware(latch, supports, etc)?
Doesn't really matter though because there is no way I'm buying one until I hear some good feedback about Mecham.

I had him make it out of carbon for weight obviously. The hood came ready to hook up to all of the factory hardware, and it did. No problems. But there is one thing I want to really make clear, and this is not directed at the fiberglass aftermarket industry, however, this was my second hood. The first was from VFNFiberglass.com. It was also carbon fiber. Weighed 13lbs.
Every car from the factory requires some adjustment. I truely feel your pain. I really do, and understand where you are coming from. When I put this one on the car, with the brackets as they were from the factory it did not line straight up. The arms had to be adjusted a little. And even thought this hood was gel coated prior, I still had prep work that had to be done, and as you and anyone else would know, it is not the person painting the car that makes a paint job good, but the preperation that makes a paint job good.
So, was it a direct bolt up replacement. The answer to that question is no. I am not saying that there aren't any like that, but this one and the VFN neither were.
And I have come to accept that of fiberglass products. If this hood was steel like the factory hood, I bet it would have lined right up.
Now for the hood pins. When More Performance was designing my intercooler, and plumbing for the intercooler, I was asked did I want to relocate the battery and go that route, or take the shortest route and remove the latching stuff and come right over the middle. Well you guessed it, I went right over the middle which forced me to remove the hardware and hince the hood pins. If you go to
www.perigee.net/~lunapark/engine.html
you can see the picture of the engine comparment to get what I am telling you.
I am pleased with the hood, and the paint job and finish work that was done. The body shop left the place where the loop goes on the hood for the latching piece so that I could add a manual lock.

. The grille inserts should be black though...
