I had my entire hood painted, plus the black on the scoop, for $200. However, that was a good deal from a local F-body club member.

I'd say anywhere from $200-300 is what I've seen the rate for it.

In case you didn't know, I think it will go great on the red. LOL

Yup, all you can do is look around and see what they tell you! Or possibly do as I did and see if anyone in a local car club can do paintwork for you for cheap. Good luck!

This sounds about right. I had mine hood done plus the hockey stick stripes. The actual cost will vary depending on the shop labor cost, detail (e.g. pinstriping) and the layers of paint (if you want to add clearcoat).

The total job job took about 30 hours of labor. The hoodscoop and stripes were custom designed with pinstriping. The hockeystick stripes were manually copied from a '69 SS and then modified to suit the 4th gen SS. I'm sure the job would not have taken as long if we weren't so **** about getting everthing 'just right'.

Here's a link to some pic's.

Many reasons:
-Paint looks smoother, glossier, and more professional-looking
-Paint is permanent/lasts longer
-Paint won't eventually peel off
-The vinyl decal is VERY tough to put on correctly without bubbles/wrinkles (many pros mess up both of them when trying to install)
- Decals are for pussies (as I was told many times over at LS1.com before I did mine)
