Default Cowl hood, custom air intake?

I put a 4" glasstek hood on my Z, has anyone tried to make a better air intake using this? Like maybe flipping the lid over and making a box?

you would be better off leaving it stock. because you would have to put a 180* bend in the pipe to get it back up there. when you add a 180* bend to a pipe, its like adding about 36 ft of strait pipe in with it

you got a shot of the underside of the hood? you could always fab something up out of sheetmetal with something like a 45* bend to hook into the MAF.

I'm thinking more like flip the lid where its at, then closing in the cowl with sheet metal except where it meets the filter. I need to check what the clearance would be between the lid and cowl when the hoods shut.

Something like this is what i was suggesting, and would probably seal better, as you could mount it into the lower air box assembly and than either use a cone or drop-in filter.

I dont even think a cowl hood would be practical for having the real cowl effect of ram air because our windows are so raked that no air is getting pushed back into the engine.

Wrong! Theres lots of air being forced in there! Ever drive in the rain? Watch the water droplets get sucked in there. When I drive in the rain or with the car wet, the water will roll up the hood and back down the backside of the cowl. I don't want to put all that tubing on there though, thats just too much for it to suck through. I'll mess with it and post a pic to show what I mean.

I just threw those pictures in, in case you wondered how it was connecting. Definately wouldn't be practical to run that much tubing. If you're interested, I'll sketch out what I was thinking and post it up later, or email it to you.
