Call around to the auto body shops and see who they recommend. In big cities there should be a powdercoater or two, depends on how big. Powdercoating takes big ovens and other tools, so they aren't all over the place.

Another good way to find out is to call the quad/motorcycle shops in your area and see who they recommend to do powdercoating. The sand dune guys have their stuff powdercoated and chromed all day long and so they should know who does it. I had a guy a few hours away do my quad frame and some other parts. Excellent job, only cost me $200 or so, including blasting the frame down and hottanking it. If they can do a frame, then they should be able to do wheels and anything else you need.

Powdercoating lasts longer. But it's probably a tad heavier than painting.

You have me there... that's probably true with wheels. But in the sand dunes... powdercoat or the sand will start blasting away the paint. So that's where I was coming from.

You can buy wheel paint or engine paint(its universal) , and make sure you get the glossy kind if thats what you want. Also get primer and clear coat. As you know, one thick coat of primer goes on first, let it dry, put 3 thin coats of the paint on , wait till that dries and then add as much clear as you want. Its really easy and cheap... but will make all the difference.

I used duplicolor ceramic based engine enamel, it's some tough stuff. I just sold the wheels I painted last month and I had em on my car for like 2 years, I only had 1 small rock chip.

steps I used were sand to rough the surface

clean surface with ajax to get all the grease and grime off

sprayed flat black high heat engine paint for primer

sprayed the color (I used duplicolor gunmetal wheel paint)

Finally sprayed high heat engine clear coat.
