I had the same thing happen to me. Mine was just keyed on the door all the way across and mine was $450 at the dealer. Did they key all the way down the car?? By the way the dealer did an excellent job and matched the paint perfectly. I did not turn it into the insurance because I didnt want my rates to go up. Insurance is frustrating!

That shouldn't cost more than $400. If you are going to get a pro to do it anyway, Try to do it yourself first for the hell of it. It's free!!! Go to Brnes and Noble bookstore and get an easy to use book about do it yourself painting. You will need to let the paint cure correctly, so a spare car for a few days at least will be needed.Try it 1st and if you have to take it to a shop. You can't mess up THAT bad...

that sucks man...i been there too. driver door, back quarter, and trunk lid under the spoiler (ss spoiler). looks more like a screwdriver than a key on both ours. it happened almost 3 months after i got her (pretty sure it was my ex or one of her stupid wanna be b/f who have there mouths where i uhh...ya). i still have the scratches and have only gotten a couple door dings on the ame quarter. unless you take her to shows nd stuff, i hate to say it b/c it looks like ****, but leave it, people are less likely to key it again. sorry to hear about it....and 800 is way too high

don't try touch up paint or any sort of polish on it. don't waste your time because the mark is through the existing paint. polishing, even with a machine (especially with a machine) is just going to cut through the surrounding paint and damage it. just let it sit until you can get it repainted. touch up paint will probably bring the damage out even moreso than now.
insurance is quirky; some insurance companies won't increase your rates at all in a situation like this, and others will raise it regardless. my insurance company won't raise my rate in a situation like this until the damage exceeds $3000. i'd call them and have it appraised and see what they tell you on your rates. they don't charge anything for an appraisal (they better not).

Comprehensive coverage will cover the damage, and unless you have some generic suck *** ins. co., they can't raise your rates. Think about it: Is it your fault it got keyed? No.
I've had 2 of my cars damaged, never had my insurance go up.
One thing you can try though, go to a more expensive shop, get an estimate (looks like you already did), and then use the insurance money to get it fixed somewhere cheaper or maybe a guy could do it on the side. I had my hood painted a few weeks ago for $100, materials and labor included.

it amaze's me that someone can key a car for no reason at all and not think twice about it. i just don't get the humor in it. sorry to see that happen to you man. i would try to persue a video camera pointed in your direction and see if it didn't catch the punk who did it and then the car they may have gotten into too. you never know, with all the camera's out there now, i wouldn't doubt it. just ask around.
