Default Silverstars In Trans Am Foglights?

Is it possible to just pull out the old bulb in the foglights of a 98+ Trans Am and replace them with Silvania Silverstar bulbs? If so, What's the number of the bulbs? If not, is there any other type of replacement for the foglights to make them brighter. The factory ones aren't bright enough for me, any help is appreciated!

it might say which bulb on the lense, thats how the headlight and taillights are. And i do think it just a direct bulb replacement, nothing special or difficult.

Yes- it is possible. I did it. I don't remember the part#, but it was real easy to find at walmart on their electronic search guide on the shelf by the lights. They come in a pack of 2. I think it was like $30 for both of them.

I have them over a year without a problem of getting too hot. They seem to have a fairly short life. I replaced one after about 9 months.

Welp, did the Silverstar conversion today. The number is 880ST for the silverstars, the install is somewhat hard if you have big hands, but it went okay, and the bulbs are much whiter. Haven't seen them at night, and i'll post pics when night comes! Thanks for the info. The bulbs were $40.25 at walmart.

yeah i got a camaro and have $85 in silverstars for my low and high beams and bought some "HID SIMULATED" fog lamp bulbs online and turns out they were crap....but oh well i have been pleased with the ST's..heard they dont last too long but they are really the only other choice besides a true HID setup..saved me the other night from hitting a dead possum in the road..i was able to react faster cause of the increased distance i could see..im pleased

When installing Halogen or HID bulbs (or other bulbs that run this hot), dont touch the glass. The oil from your skin will contaminate the glass and shorten the life of the bulb.

Thumbs down Silverstar's for foglights are a big mistake!

Do not buy these bulbs for your stock fog lights. I would say it is my worst "mod" if you can call it that.

The reason I tried them is I have had good results with Silverstar's on other cars in their headlights. Unfortunatly Trans Am headlights have only one choice....Standard halogen.

Back to the fog lights. The stock bulbs were very dim so I thought "Hey why don't I spend 40 dollars on some really great bulbs." Big mistake. They are just a bit whiter than stock and not Noticeably brighter.

I would not recomend buying these bulbs at all. In fact I'm still so disapointed with the performance of the "foglights" that I'm looking at replacing the whole bulb assembly. If anyone has any experience with this I'd like to hear about it.

They seem to be quite a bit brighter for me, did you buy the 880ST's or just the 880's?

You can buy conversion buckets to allow the installation of bulbs like the Camaro or make your own:

https://ls1tech.com/forums/showthrea...ht=sealed+beam
In this thread there is a discussion about this and a link to a thread on another board with instructions on converting a sealed beam bulb into a conversion unit to allow the installation of bulbs like the Camaro and most newer cars. Check it out, he shows how to disassemble the sealed beam bulb to allow the instalation of regular bulbs.

Haven't a clue, I just looked it up in the book at walmart and it showed that the number was 880, I found 880 and 880ST, found that the difference was the ST's where whiter and better, so I picked up those....
