I had a black 02 Z28, with what else, black Z28 badges. One of the first things I did was pull the Z28 emblems off and put on silver SS emblems, because I had just put silver Z06 wheels on it, and it matched alot better. I never said it was an SS, hell it didn't have the spoiler and it had a cowl induction hood. It just made it look better. Never said it was a SS, and most people never asked. IMO, do what you want, as long as you don't try to sell it as a SS.

I had just got the car home from the dealership and those were all I could find on Ebay that day. I didn't know about this site back then or I'd have done some research and found some Z28 emblems.

If your car is a Z28, who cares? If you had like a V6 and you put ANY kind of V8 emblems (Z28 or SS) then thats again ******* retarded.

Do it if you want but dont sell it as an "SS" is all i'm saying. I know i was upset when a guy in my hometown got a HO Z28 and put SS badges, hood, spoiler on it. Made my car less "unique" but then again it's his to do what he wants. Do whatever makes you happy but if it were mine, i'd just get some aftermarket Z28 emblems (old style or Z06 style or something) and leave it like that. As far as "why does anyone care"? He posted it on here for people to put their opinions so he's getting them.

i hate these freekin threads....its YOUR car, do what YOU want....everyone gets their panties in a wad over this. i never see anyone say anything to anyone w/ a fake chevelle ss/nova ss/camaro ss or z28(non-ls1s obviously)/ or one of the MILLIONS of fake 396/427/454 cars. for crying out loud, this year at corvettes of carlisle, i prolly saw 2x the amnt of original 427/435hp cars that were made lol...damn posers

slp isnt gm anyways, its not like it came from gm directly w/ all the ss work done...it was done at slp...some ppl just choose to do ss mods in their garages like a true gear head

one more thought...most ppl who bitch about this subject are the same types of retards who frown upon modding such a "prestigious" car...once at a car show was overhearing some old guy saying what an idiot this owner of a "real" 435hp l88 corvette was cuz he put headers on it and didnt have some horrible sounding/heavy/ugly but "original" exhaust manifolds on it...its his car, and i think it shoulda came from the factory w/ headers anyways, its not like he put it in the trash compactor, its all "undoable" if someone wants to buy HIS car and put it back to stock....thats all i got to say haha

This thread is

Shut the hell up about ruining gm heritage by putting SLP badges on a car. Who honestly gives a crap? If you want them, put em on, if you don't want em? Don't have em! And shut the **** up about it. This bickering is limp.

like i said it is his car if he wants them do it, just dont sell it as an ss and basically "trick" someone into thinking it's something it isn't. As far as old cars, do what you want to those as well, a car like the l88 i wouldnt due to it's collectability but i have a 69 that was matching numbers and i pulled it apart to put a LT1 in it with a M6...Do i feel bad about it? not one bit I should call it a 4th gen Z though since it is at heart

this is my personal thought. ive seen guys that convert z's to ss's and leave the z28 badges on and i think it just looks out of place. for you guys that think you have something special cuz you have a real ss...ur wrong.

now if an ss had a different engine like lets say the ss came with a 427 and the z28 came with an ls1...then i think it would be poser if you put the ss badges on and had the wrong engine.

so if i was sitting in a parking lot with a bunch of cars...how could you prove yours is a real ss?

i understand that there are hardcore gm guys that are sentimental about what trim the car is (and im not knocking you guys)...but guess what...the other 99% of the people dont give 2 *****. does the car look good? yes...DONE

ok ill say my .02 then u can flame me for it. i personally think if u bought a z28 then be happy with what u have. i had one for 6 years and never even thought of rebadging it. i have since upgraded to an ss. to whoever said its nothing special, yea im sorry but it is. thats why u pay more for it. if it wasnt anything special they would send all z28's to slp for z28 floormats, bilstein shocks, larger sway bars, bfg kd tires, chrome 17" rims, a new hood/ spoiler and the list goes on. a 4th gen may not be a rare collector car such as the 1st gens (with exlusion to a rare few) it is still the top of the line model. thats like putting a cobra bumper and hood on ur mach 1 because it has the 4v motor then rebadging it. might as well put z28 badges on a v6. owning an ss there is some bit of feeling knowing what u have. the slp birth certificate hanging on the wall in my office reminds me. my z never came with that. it was every bit as fast, and looked just as good in its own ways i think, but it still felt different climbing into that car vs my ss.

with that said, if she wants them so bad u cant talk her into some retro badges etc then let her do it. its not going to hurt anything. but there is always going to be the jackass like myelf looking at the car in the next lane and shaking his head. sorry.

the above post is exactly why i think you should put SS emblems on it. in fact all this has made me want to put SS emblems on my car. they are just sitting here along with the SLP grille, was going to go on my brothers car but its going to go on one of them, with the SS still on it and with SS on the rear

The only thing I find funny is the people with Z's who are saying the SS isnt anything special. Why the heck are you putting on the SS badges then? Surely you dont think two SS's look better than a Z followed by 28? Is there anybody out there that put Z28 badges on their SS, or does it just go the other way?

Just put a type R badge on it and call it a day.

I to think it's funny that its the Z people saying it's nothing special. If you want to clone it go for it. I'm planning on cloning my 69 to a SS but i think it's obvious that its not to any non-casual observer. Its her car if she wants it do it.

I say go for it. Obviously the opinions are very mixed. If you have the hood and wing, I think it looks good. I think it's OK since thats all an SS really is. I do think it's lame when you put SS badges on a a car with a stock Z28 hood/wing. It's a different story when you put cobra badges on a GT, with the motor being totally different. My friend put an SS hood/wing/badges on his car and I was cool with it. Now I have a trans am with an WS6 hood and badges. If you aren't looking to own a collector car, why not have an SS/WS6 clone without the insurance premium? The only difference with a clone is the VIN# and as long as you don't lie about your car being something it's not, who cares.

let me rephrase my quote. the hood and the wing are BAD ******* *** on an ss...i will never take that away from it...but other than that...what else ya got? a piece of paper...woopty dooo! good for you. if you put the hood and wing on your car...i see is as a REQUIREMENT to put the ss badges on to make it look complete. ss badging anything other than a total ss lookalike i think would not be right.

and think about what you said dude..."i have a slip of paper that says its an original ss" who cares about a slip of paper? other than the 1% of die hard gm fans.

so slp bolted the hood, wing, some badges and a set of rims on your car...yay for you.

you see a hot lookin chic with a nice rack...but then find out theyre bolt ons...but they look SOOOO real...ya kickin her out of bed?

people have been making 93 cobra clones for years...cuz they are a very desirable look for a fox mustang. so someone that already has a gt with tons of stuff done to it decides he wants the look of the cobra. he should sell that car and buy a cobra and redo everything thats done to the car?...and spend 10k doing it? i have NEVER heard of someone being looked down upon for making a 93 cobra clone...as long as it looks RIGHT. a guy with a gt with cobra badges is a ***...plain and simple.

hi
