for the sake of accuracy I did a little research and math, and the SS's are a bit more rare except it 2001 the Z28 is slightly more rare. Here's how the numbers break down if anybody cares, no big deal but since I looked it up and did the math, I figured I'd share the numbers:

Year_____SS_______Z28
98______2,875____14,788
99______4,829____12,564
2000____8,913____11,493
2001____6,332_____6,320
2002____11,191___13,614
-----------------------------------
________34,140___58,779

Oh BTW we did do something ricey, we went and got some of the SS emblems in highly polished stainless steel, and will be replacing the stockers with the ss SS emblems...

So I have 4 sets of removed stockers, and 2 sets of NIB SS emblems for some of these Z's if y'all need 'em...

Cool, I had read somewhere else that they actually made more SS than Z's in 2002, I guess I was wrong; thanks for the correction!

Putting the SS emblems on a non-SS Camaro is no different than putting a Ram Air hood on a non-ram air Trans Am or Formula. Lots of people do it.

Keep a Z28 a "Z28" and no one puts Z28 on their SS.

I wonder if those that put SS emblems on are concerned with what the general public see/know? Most of us LS1 guys know a little bit of Camaro history and the majority know that the fourth gen SS and Z are pretty much the same thing but it seems I get alot of, "it's a Z, not an SS" thing from people. Mine's not as good as the SS? I just have to remember who I'm talking to and try to educate them a little, that's all. I myself feel as if it's posing, I own a Z and am proud of what the Z has done for Camaro. It's gotten to the point that whenever I see the SS hood and spoiler I wonder if it's even an SS. Not that I'm going to stop the dude and check out his RPO codes or anything it's just that the SS is cloned big time, but to each his own I guess. There has to be a reason why someone would want to badge a car SS other than it looks better than the Z badge.

one day a friend of mine showed up with a friend of his. We were just hanging out and the other dude says, so I hear you have this sweet SS, can I see it? Funny, I've never called it an SS and it doesn't have SS badges. People are pretty confused I guess.

It's funny though, some of these guys on here talk like the Z is a turd compared to an SS when it's the same car except for a few cosmetic things. Be proud you have an SS, but no need to bash the guys that didn't buy an SS.

Actually it doesn't mean anything important. It refers to when I posted "I wonder if IHOP is still doing stuffed french toast....Hmmmm...Anyone hungry?"

I believe it might be where you saw my build# to use in your post...

So,when you posted "no offense to you MJK, just making a joke and your's is the one I see, but build number 3,000+ not exactly rare cars are they? Somewhere I heard that Z28's are actually rarer than SS's in the LS1's, but I'll have to verify it I guess"

I replied with "Does that mean you're not hungry man?"

Sorry for the confusion but...I personally think people are getting way too personal over something like this subject.

Like some people (NOT ALL) are just posting to insult or stir up sh*t in general. So,instead of getting into a "who's d*ck is bigger" contest...I just post something random and meaningless....

I have posted before about this on other message boards and I will post it again...

Having a real SS means alot to some people and means nothing to others...I find it insane how people can't respect that simple fact.

Is my SS "Rare"?No.Is it faster? Not all the time.LS1s differ from car to car regardless of it being an SS,TA,WS6,Z28,Formula,B4C or Firehawk.

Should someone be told what they can and can't do with their car? No.Is a car an SS just because the wing, hood, wheels etc are added? No.No bias toward either side, its just a FACT that unless it came from GM as an SS,its not.

I like having my build# just for the fact of what it is...Not saying its a rare car or some HIGHLY sought after vehicle. It like having a birthdate,or name to me.My car's build is #3499.I'm into all the "little differences" in cars and some people are not.I would call myself a car geek, thats how I look at it.Some people only look at how much HP a car has,I don't.Well,I do but it really is only a small part of the equation.

I always like having something just a little different or a little special.I like all the little things that are unique to an SS equipped Camaro.Thats why it was well worth the extra money for me.

For someone to tell me that my car's SS package wasn't worth the extra money (THAT I PAID!) because it doesn't have some significant HP increase over a Z28 is wrong. And an opinion.

For me to tell someone that my car is better than their car because its an actual SS is also wrong. And my opinion.

For someone to call a Z28 an SS just because they put on the "parts" is also plain and simply wrong.Thats not an opinion, just a fact.

Again, thatis NOT meant to treat a Z28 owner like he owns some lesser vehicle at all!But people take that simple fact as some personal attack.I DO NOT understand that part.I have owned a Z28 myself and never felt like I had a lesser vehicle, just a slightly different V8 model of Camaro.

But people will still argue this...So,how about a Denny's Grand Slam!?!?No?

You have to head west and make a drastic left turn until you fall of the face of reality.

Then you will be trapped here, driving a car everyone hates because its not a Prius.

Even when driving I prefer the right but am trapped here with all the left...

Personally, I like the look of the Z28 bagde more than the SS badge, but that is just me. I still dont have any problem with people doing that, your money, your car, go for it.

I'd go to year one and get a few old school z28 badges and be done with it.

I think its more like 75% think its dumb to do so, and 25% don't care one way or the other.

....or 25% of our members were formerly ricers with Type-R wannabe Hondas
