Who's the hater?

It cracks me up that after 20+ pages in this thread there still is no legitimate reason for rebadging a car as something it is not.

Werd!!!

If I wanted an SS, I would have bought an SS. I bought my Z28 and put a few minor mods on it the same week and whooped up on many SS/WS6's that came along. I say be proud of what you have, as long as it's got an LS1 under the hood, who cares!

i also agree that if u have a z then represent but if ur like me and had to save u know how it is to pay for the ss price which is crazy but if u r on low budget i say go for it that was my case i had little money and big dreams just like there are hundreds of 67-69 fake ss and rsss cars and i think the compacted lettering (ss) looks better than the z style which is wideer obviously thats my excuse

I was born the same year as the Camaro, 1967. Ever since I was old enough to remember riding in a car, I wanted a Camaro SS. We had friends and neighbors with Camaro SS's, Chevelle SS's, Corvettes. Hell, my mom had a '65 Impala coupe and, after the divorce, my dad even got a Chevelle. I grew up surrounded by, and dreaming about these cars. When I started driving I couldn't afford one either. I got my first Camaro after college. But, even then I couldn't afford a Z28 and had to settle for a V6. But, I was proud to have it because it was a Camaro and it was mine. I never tried to pass it off as something it was not. I put on a catback and a K&N intake and that's about it. It sounded amazing, especially for a V6. Hell, it even sounded better than my SS with the stock exhaust. People used to tell me all the time that they loved my Z28! But, I never said "Thank you" and moved on. Instead, I took pleasure in the fact that they weren't knowledgable enough to know the difference and I enjoyed correcting them and telling them it was only a V6.

Rebadging your car because you "couldn't afford a real one" or "like the way those badges look better" or because your car is "just as fast or faster" is all BS.

I'm not trying to offend or **** off anyone, that's just the way it is.

Same here. My family's first car was a '68 Chevelle SS396, and although that thing didn't run right from day 1, it had all the ***** and persona that made the "SS" name famous. It was also this car that made me envious of most "ss" cars that came after it. Oddly enough, that first car also happens to be the most valuable of the cars that my father has owned since then.

My angle is that when I finally had the chance to buy an 'SS, it was special because of its heritage. So for me, arbitrarily putting a badge on a car "just because" really takes the fun out of owning a legitimate 'SS, not mentioning insulting the underlying heritage of the car that you're covering up.

Now, on the other side, I also remember my uncle's '77 Z28 (along with a couple of First Gen drag and street cars), and how that car was special because of its handling, appearance and exhaust note. I have fond memories of that car as well; As hard to believe that I would not call myself a "dried in the wool camaro enthusiast", I would not even think of covering a Z28 with 'SS badges because the Z28 has a performance legacy of its own that is equal in stature to the 'SS.

Everyone's already put in there 2 cents, but might as well add on...

I get what your saying about it being the same car, and it truly comes down to what you like... I personally like the look of the Z28 badge over an SS badge, just my opinion

i wouldnt do it cause i just don't like makin a car somethin that its not, even if it is just an appearance/suspension package. kinda like the guys that try to turn a cutlass into a 442, why buy parts to make a car that you coulda bought like that from the factory? I know you can buy a 442 anywhere near as cheap as you can buy a cutlass now these days but if i wanted a 442 that bad i would rather save up and buy a real one, caue in the end you will end up spending more money on a cutlass turnng it into a 442 than if you had just bought a 442, just like you would on a z turning it into a ss. A 442 is a more rare car, the fact that i had "just a cutlass" i didnt feel bad about modifying it and makin it into an animal, a 442 on the other hand i would rather leave stock, since they are a rare car and more valuable, and im not talkin about those damn 1980 whatever 442's im talkin about the 68-72's, the real deals. and the people that try to turn base model cars into the rare top of the line models and try to sell the car for the value of the top model to someone that doesnt know any better should be punished... now granted the ss is that much different from a z that i would feel bad about makin mods on it but i would still feel better modding a z than a ss just cause thats what they made more of if you get what im tryin to say. as far as turning a z into a ss, you may as well have gotten a ss, im into changin a z into somethin unique as far as appearance goes not somethin that was made by the factory, even though ss's look really good.

I can tell you that if I bought a Z28 and turned it into an SS clone I wouldn't really care if somebody thinks it's "wrong." If I pay for it, don't tell me what I should or shouldn't to my car.

either leave the Z28 badges on or just dont put any badges on at all. I personally want to put SS hood and spoiler on my 98Z but im not taking off the z28 badges. as you can see from my sig pic, i could easily fool other drivers of it being an SS with just adding hood and spoiler and badges, but why? i like my car as a Z28
