Default Paint Question

Okay, so I just got my tax refund and plan on going with a VFN ram air hood. I just have a couple of questions about what i should do.

1. I plan to have the hood painted and have the front bumper stripped and repainted. How much do you think this will set me back?

2. Is there anything I should do or change when going from the stock hood to to the fiberglass ram air hood. What should I do about the hood struts so that the hood doesn't warp?

3. I have heard of people driving for a while with the unpainted hood for a while before they have it painted. Is there any reasoning behind this?

Anyways, thanks for any help. I hate that stock lt1 hood.

ya you drive a while because fiberglass contracts and expands, ie gets hot gets bigger so you want to make sure it will fit properly and another thing my hood wasnt heated up so when they painted it and i drove it all the paint blistered

i would recomend modifying them or taking them off. you can drill a hole in them while full extended(would release all the pressure in them) and attach a little key chain with a pin to the strut, so you can lift up the hood and place the pin in the hole you drilled to hold the stut in the extended position (does that make sense?)

Yeah its beacause they couldnt afford to have it painted, but they were too excited about the hood and wanted to put it on

My WS9 hood came with instructions that say to put it on so the fiberglass can fully cure before painting it.
For struts Im going with this........

You release the pressure from your stock struts and use this to lock them in an up right position

Thanks for the quick replies. I will definately drive for a while with the hood unpainted. How long should i do this?
Yes, I do understand the pin thing. But the thing Mustang showed is also intriguing.

Anyone else have an estimated quote on the paint.

I don't mind hearing things like that, it makes you feel better about all the money you dump into it.
