Wash it in the shade if possible, if you can't, wash it early in the morning.

Also, I go over it with detailing spray after I wash it.

Wax and polish helps, also. I kept my Ranger looking clean after 5 rainy days (then I washed it again) after I used Zaino Z5 and Z2 polishes on it.

You'll never have it perfectly clean unless you dont drive it....hell sitting my driveway as I just finish wiping off the rest of the water- its already got dust on it. I just wash mine in the shade, then run water over the whole car without and nozzel (no spray- makes the water sheet off rather then bead up) then I use an absorber to get most of the big drops off then I finish up with a microfiber towel to remove any streaks and spots left behind from the absorber while buffing it to a nice shine!!! If you have a hard water problem you can always look into getting a filter. And as always, a good wax job will never hurt. I wax mine only 2 times a year but its in storage for 6 months(stupid Buffalo NY and the snow), so basically once in the spring and once in the late summer, however my car isnt a daily driver. Hope this helps, but like SGT. SPUDS said- "Black..its a bitch to keep clean!" But once its clean, you'll never get over how sexy it looks.....

Like a couple have said before use a detailing spray or a speed wax type product. Wiping a car down with one afterward will take off the water spots and leave that car clean, smooth, and glossy.

Supplies:

-car wash soap with high lubricity
-high quality sheepskin wash mitts
-foam gun
-2 buckets with grit guards for paint
-1 bucket and mitt for wheels
-high quality microfiber towels
-210+ mph electric leaf blower
-high quality sealant and/or wax
-quick detailer

Method:

-wash wheels/tires/wells first to prevent spotting on paint and glass

-Don't use the same mitt or bucket for wheels that you use on your paint. The brake dust, etc. from your wheels will cause scratches and swirls in your paint.

-using foam gun, cover vehicle in a thick layer of foam

-Use two buckets for washing paint. One with a soapy mixture, the other with plain water to rinse the mitt between panels.

-Never use circular motions. Always wash, dry, and wax using front to back and top to bottom motions.

-when vehicle is fully cleaned, allow a slow, steady stream of water to flow over each panel...sheeting the majority of the water off

-use the leaf blower to blow all water from flat surfaces, mirrors, lights, etc.

-remove any remaining water with a waffle weave drying towel and detail spray

*The less you touch the paint, the less chance of marring*

Keeping a good sealant and/or wax on the paint will assist in cleaning and reduce chances of marring.

Use extra suds. Soap is cheap, don't skimp.

Use double the soap and be gentle using the softest mitt you can find.

Get a water filter, like the Mr. Clean detailer. Run it inline with your hose and that will minimise the water spots.

Budweiser after each wash. ~Joshua

The remedy...

The golden rule is to keep the car wet. If the sun is really beating down and you don't have shade you got to wash it in quarters, then 2 rims at a time. But constantly keep water on the car until you're ready to dry off.

That's exactly what I do and I'm surprised that no one brought this up. It's a good thing I don't have black

I keep mine constantly wet too and change the bucket at least twice during washing. Use a lambs wool mit and filter through a Mr. Clean filter. Seems to reduce water spots as I have hard water. Oh, I use Meguairs NXT car wash for my soap.

So do alot of you guys with the black cars use the california car duster? Ive been thinking about getting one but I read somewhere that it will put more swirlmarks in the paint, is this true?
