These are the only numbers on the shocks from the SS.

010433810
288 / 96 C

They are the same numbers on both shocks. They are stock on a 1997 SS. They are MUCH LIGHTER than the shocks that came on my Firebird with the stock steel hood.

The Firebird struts are marked considerably different. They are marked as follows:

STABILUS
USA Gastonia NC 28052
4892EV 0330N
132 / 00 B 21

Thank you very much phantom. It's good to hear that instead of all this BS.

On the hunt for another set of SS struts

My mecham hood started doing what other vfn hoods have done. I sent that hood back and have a new one. Since then I have not run struts. Ill be looking for some ss ones now. Too bad no one makes a direct replacement that is rated below the stock piece to end this debate. It gets to be a pain without struts from time to time.

OMG...As long as your not ripping up your hood to open and slamming it down like a ape your hoods will be fine! People think into **** way to far.

^^most people don't do that, its not the problem......the struts are the problem. Why the hell would someone open and close their hood like an ape?

Most people I see feel the need to slam down the hood shut (those with struts) I saw it everyday when I worked for a GM dealership. I've always pushed the hood down to the latch and pushed down. Never had a single problem with my stock hood..or my RKsport SS hood and finally my Ultra Z hood all had stock struts.
