I have been looking through this thread for a while now as my new 3in SS hood from VFN just came in 2 days ago...but I have SS struts the only thing is my car has been getting modified and painted for the last 8 weeks and the struts have been opened the whole time, and now when I try to depress them wow its tough...what oiling or lubrication could I use to get them back to normal so I dont ruin my new hood when I get it painted?

They are the same numbers on both shocks. They are stock on a 1997 SS. They are MUCH LIGHTER than the shocks that came on my Firebird with the stock steel hood.
The Firebird struts are marked considerably different. They are marked as follows:
STABILUS
USA Gastonia NC 28052
4892EV 0330N
132 / 00 B 21

Ok so now I'm wondering. I'm thinking the 3rd set of numbers, which appears on every set I have, is some sort of manufacturer's date. The one's on my SS are marked 96, the car is a 97, so it makes sense they would use the same struts from the 96 model.
The first set of Stabilus struts are from my 00 firebird. The numbers match the 00 stamped on the strut. This new set is marked 97, which has to be accurate because I bought them from a 98.
Basically, it might be a shot oin the dark, but I believe we need to find a set that is marked 96. I think those are the only ones that will be the exact psi we are looking for.
Someone correct me if I'm wrong.

i'm confused how the guy says they are SLP OEM struts for SS-WS6. to me they sound just like my 94 z28 stock struts i have on my ZL1 hood, and i have to push on the hood to get the hood to close. when i release the hood latch the hood wants to fly open and bounces up..

STABILUS
10201454
148/97 G
...and if it is anything like Mopar then "148/97" would mean the 148th day of 1997
