sunroof in a 4th gen? a wtf moment
Last night I went to the Phillies game some amazing pitching, a great game even though we lost.
As with any major event leaving you run into a traffic pile up and kinda look at cars while waiting. What I saw I never expected a stock looking with the RS package body work pewter 4th gen from the 98-02 years. Neat, I'll stare at that.
The car is a little lower then us as the road slopes so I can see the roof, or well whats left of it.
This car didn't have t-tops but sure as heck had a sun roof. What I'd like to know isn't one of if not the only support for the roof dead in the middle? How could this be done, and would the car still be safe ?
I wish I could snap a pic, but it looked like a pop up kind and cleanly installed from what I could see being at night and not being able to stare at it, but it was sure as sin a sunroof.
Any insite on this or am I just being amazed by something overly simple?

I've seen it on a couple of camaros before. I don't think it looks as good as the t-tops but I could see how it is a lot cheaper to do if you have someone else do it.

A few have converted to targa tops as well so if they understand they have to remove the support in order to do that or to put in a sunroof, that's their choice.
I wonder what affect an aftermarket sunroof has on the resale value of a used car?

ive seen firebirds and camaros alike with sunroofs. I always assumed it was an aftermarket modification but whats weird is they all look exactly the same. I started wondering if it was some weird factory option and still do but i really dont think so. I wish i could ride in one becuase every single one ive seen looked popped up like a fiero or mustang style. I wonder if they have motors and all.

I used to install those pop-ups in all kinds of cars. They're actually not bad quality, I'd feel more comfortable with one of those than with the power ones. The power ones are usually more fragile and they have a tendency to leak. The pop-ups usually don't leak, there's a lot less to go wrong with them.

I had one put in on my 94 z28. After 6 months it rattled some.
They put in a **** ton of criss crossing metal support thingies all around the sunroof. Yes it cuts thru the middle support beam, and the guys were pretty hesitant about cutting thru it.
It was one of those outside retracting sunroofs.. but case of the mechanism it only opened about halfway... it was neat.. at that time I hadnt seen anyone else with a camaro who had one or firebird for that matter...

Mine was power.. was pretty cool.. never leaked.. but wa sa little noisy and due to the mechanism it could only oopen up like halfway.
Shrusg dunno about the structural rigidity etc.. but I had pretty much stiffened it up with sfc's and stb and sways etc etc.. pretty much liek this car.. only it was lowered too.
